Hey out there in Ferrari land! It's been awhile since I've posted - my humble apologies - I've been busy starting my own firm. I too love my euro-version 308 gtsi - try to drive it whenever I can (only in nice weather though). Click on my profile to see me & my sweetheart taken on a fine fall day - my favorite time to take a drive & watch the leaves scatter in the wake!

Hi Everyone!

Like my profile says I'm a rookie, but I'm even newer then that. I take possession of my (first Ferrari) 85' 308 GTS QV on Tuesday (04/02/02). I can't wait.

Here's a URL where photos can be seen of the car. http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/just4pjm/lst?.dir=/4RE

I've been reading posts at this web site for some time and I look forward to chatting with everyone soon. Cheers, Peter.

True, although inflation has made a 1984 $60K into a 2002 $120K.

The original owner of mine paid a flat $40K (U.S. dollars) for his through a German dealership (mine does have some paperwork from the German exporter) and then paid an additional $11.5K for the EPA / DOT changes for a total of $51.5

When you think that these machines are still fetching the low $30's and occasionally the upper $30's, that's pretty damn good for holding thier value.

According to the following link...

ferrariclub_msrp price link

the MSRP factory price for a 1984 308 GTSi QV was $60,345.

Same here, Greg & John...the only reason for my wanting a copy of the window sticker was to display it on the 308 at local car shows (along with the original sticker price) so as to avoid having to answer so many of the typical questions, for example "how much", "what size engine", "what year", etc. I've seen this done on many vintage cars and is very effective -- and it sort of completes the "show" look. At this stage, I'm considering creating a bogus one, using a page layout program, patterned after a typical Ferrari window sticker.

Sorry to get off topic here, by the way.

I've been thinking if someone who has a window sticker for a 308 GTS QV was nice enough to put it on Ferrarichat we could copy it and change info for our cars.

John & Eric, I'm trying to do find the same information, but what makes my task even harder is that my car is a "Euro". I've been talking with the company that imported the car and did its' DOT / EPA work, but that hasn't been successful.

Eric I went this route already I was told they only have copies of newer cars that had window stickers only placed on cars in USA. I have a 1984 308 GTS QV was told to old stickers back than were placed on cars when shipped from Italy. If I ever find a place I'll post it.

John...I'm in the process of trying to obtain a window sticker as well. The owners.ferrari website "people" responded and said to call F.N.A. (201-816-2600 and ask for Cherilyn). So I did, and they faxed me the standard "Information Request Form". In addition to the usual info required (name, address, vin #, engine #, gearbox #, etc.), they all stated that a copy of the Title was required. I placed another call to verify if "all" of this info. was absolutely necessary, and they said to just supply as much as possible (including whatever type of registration / certificate of title was available, not necessarily "the Title") to them via fax.

From what I gathered from the phone conversations, they did not seem to be very clear as to what I was actually requesting and just sent me the standard info. request form -- so this may be a dead end street here.

Haven't faxed the form back yet as I'm still trying to find the location of the engine and gearbox numbers .

I'll keep you posted as to what happens; and keep us posted with your findings as well -- thanks and hope this helps.

http://www.marx7.org/graphix/events/kimballs/line_308_2.jpg

My '82 Euro 308 GTS QV S/N 43825 has it's idiosyncracies:

- Fiberglass bumpers
- orange/white turn signal/running lights in front bumper
- Large Fiberglass front spoiler
- No cat/air pump/O2 sensor
- Black fender & hood louvers (hood louver is blk anodized, w/slightly silver sheen.
- dual twin pipe exhaust
- twin distributors (TRutlands was surprised when I told them it was a Euro w/Twins.)
- small round side lights on front fender
- '82 GTSi/GTBi manual & service location books.
- Space-saver 'dino' spare.
- Bag w/Jack, lug wrench, & plastic container with spare bulbs& sparkplugs. (No tool kit tho.)
HISTORY:
Ferrari Factory supplied a build date of October '82. Wish I'd asked what dealer it was shipped to(duh). I only know a tantalizing bit of it's previous history.

It has a windshield sticker from GentryLane in Toronto. I called them & they took the VIN & confirmed it was serviced there in '87 thru '89. (they wouldn't give me the owner's name. One of these days I'll go up there & see what they'll tell/show me face to face.)

CARFAX shows it registered in NY in '92. It was titled in MA a year or so later.

Dealer replaced Euro speedo with US one just before I bought it. Still had Euro speedo w/ 39,000 km on it when I first saw the car, but it got replaced by a US one bought from TRutlands before I could do anything about it. At least I got to see the Euro Odometer & know the mileage matches the kilometerage.

1985 308 GTS QV Red/Tan #54049. It was a recent Platinum Concours winner at the FCA Dallas meet 2001, and the only 308 to win a Coppa Bella Macchina award. I am hooked on Ferrari. The car is great. I am listing it for sale to try and get into a 355.

Mitchel, I wish I was closer to Atlanta because it seems there are quite a few FC members up there. I spoke with Ken at FoA today to order a few goodies for the 308.

We need to work out a way to "meet in the middle" sometime for a Florida / Georgia Ferrari gathering. By the way, your 308 is one to drool over also. I love all 308s, that's why I bought one!

Great. Thanks, Bret.

We ran out of time before getting to my sticky throttle today... got hung up playing with my door panel in an attempt to see what was hanging up my electric lock on that side. We pulled the panel off, greased the window pulleys and guides, lubed the lock and played with it a bit... I thought it was beyond repair and planned to buy a new lock. I noticed when I got hom that it was working fine. Weird, eh? I guess it just needed some attention.

Thanks for the insight on the throttle. I will know what to look for next week. The lock nut sounds promising.

Backing down that ramp? I can't imagine. That is going to be a pucker factor ^10. My only advise would be to have a stiff drink standing by, or maybe some Oxygen... just in case.

I am going to have a look at the work you are doing in the Tech area.

Hey Erin, that ramp was interesting (it'll be even better going backwards down it). Better yet was the door which had an inch and a half on each side of clearance. There's some pretty good pics in the Tech area of work I'm doing. I've had the krank vent and test pipe sitting around, but figured I'd wait til I pulled it apart to put them in. Once it started leaking oil enough to warrant an engine pull I decided if I was gonna pull this thing apart I had no intentions of putting it back together without some mods. I planned on head work and electronic ignition, but then one thing led to another and I'm looking into pistons and cams now.

I replaced the throttle cable on mine over the summer. I would check to make sure it isn't hanging up at all on the engine (it comes up from underneath the car, through the firewall, in between the intake manifolds, to the throttle body). Also check by the pedal itself there should be a lock nut for adjustment. When the throttle plate it closed and no pressure on the gas pedal, there should be a little slack in the line up by the pedal.

Thanks, Bret. There was not another QV around here for me to make a compairison, so I'd know if my mechanic was underinformed.... and yes, they may well have been loaded when they made this particular car.

Tomorrow I go to visit Kelly Vince so he can teach me a little more about my car. He has a theory about a sticky throttle problem I have: He thinks my cable is too loose and wants to tighten it. I hope that does the trick. Tell me, has your pedal ever seemed like it needed to be lubed? Although it always springs back up just fine and never has any trouble making large movements toward the floor, it feels a little sticky when I am trying to make small feathering adjustments in a turn or from a stop. Do you now what causes that?

Nice looking car. Creepy ramp. Were you expecting to have to make all of these impovements?

Hi fellow QV owners, I'm Craig and I bought my 1985 308 GTS QV, red with tan interior, serial # 53425, last October with 12,600 miles. It now has 14,800, and I've enjoyed every mile. The car is garaged in Charlottesville, VA. As far as I can tell, everything is original, except the radio. I've been in touch with all the previous owners and they've all offered to buy the car back -- NO WAY!!

I'm Bret. I have a 1985 308GTSqv, sn 54477. It's rosso corsa with black int. It's closing in on 60K right now. God only knows what mods will be done in the near future (as long as you guys and the guys at WWoC keep encouraging me). As of now: interior was all done in leather (no vinyl anywhere), painted calipers, and K&N. When it goes back together it will be: high comp pistons, reground cams, test pipe, electronic ignition, Hayden fans, painted top, and krank vent. For my list of future mods (yes I am ridiculous enough to do more work after all this) I may or may not have to donate a kidney.
Here's the condemned entering the village of the damned, alright maybe it's just the 308 going into the shop, little did it know what it was getting into.

Hi, I am Erin Patrick and I bought my '83 308QV Euro in November. SN#44799. It is Arrest-me RED with black interior and now sports 20,500miles.

Say, do any of you know why my car has factory tubular headers and 2 "Q"s in the VIN? No one around here seems to know. A mechanic ventured a guess that it was because the car was a special order job, but how do I find out?

OK, I'll join in on the fun...

My name is Eric, and I've been a big fan of the 308 QV's since an early teenager / Magnum P.I. days (still love that show, by the way).

(Hey...this is beginning to sound a little like a group session at an A.A. meeting)

Mine is a 1985 308 GTSi QV (U.S. model) with Dark Grigio Metallic over Saddle interior, 16" Gotti wheels, Serial # 54769...and currently has 56,000 miles on the odometer. I'm currently the second owner, and would not trade her for the world right now (still on our "honeymoon").

The weather is absolutely beautiful today -- high's only in the 60's and not a cloud in sight (lot cooler than Sebring was!) -- will have to sneak away early today and take the 308 for a spin!
