I would venture to guess that a tire specially designed for and with the F50 (Goodyear Fiorano) would still be quite the challenge to even more modern designed tires. I'm sure they've done a little work on it since it's entrance into the market in 95 anyways. Too pricey for me though and the 308, I'd be too hesitant to flat spot it or spin it.

For the record, we are talking about two different tires here.

- Pirelli P-Zero Rosso maximum performance street tire: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/pirelli/pi_pzero_rosso.jsp

- Pirelli P-Zero Corsa street legal R-compound race tire: http://www.motorsporttyres.com.au/t-club.htm

Message from [email protected] regarding the P-Zero Rossa Tire:

It is a race tire and Pirelli has no plans to bring the tire to the US. They ran an add about the tire and we checked with Pirelli and they don't know why they ran the add.

The Goodyear Fiorano is the best maximum performance tire installed on any Ferrari. I have driven the 360 on every one of the four tires it is delivered on and the Goodyear's gripped the best by a wide margin. Of course, the tradeoff is accelerated wear.

I thought i had posted something to this thread about the Goodyear Fiorano, but i guess not. I have had P Zero's on a succession of cars, including on two 550's, as well as the Michelin Pilots. The Goodyears are better than both on the 550; anybody else have experience with these tires; they were tres cher.

I went with the P-Zero Asimetrical which is the same type tires that came on the car. I like the way they look with the yellow P-Zero emblem on the side. Cost was $900.00 for four plus $150.00 for a four wheel alignment.

If you want max performance in the dry, go with Kumho V700's... they'll only last about 4K miles, but then they cost half the price of the upper end street tires... so not too bad for an overall 5% increase in your Ferrari's performance. Note that on a warm day, your tires will pick up most all the debris on the road (so Stongard around the wheel wells might be wise).

If you want max dry performance without going to R-compound, go with the BFG gForce KD.

If you drive it in the rain, go with the Bridgestone S-O3 Pole Position... no other suitable tire cuts through water like those... and the dry performance is excellent.

If you're not worried about performance driving but rather winning concours, well, you know the answer for that.

I concur with John. The best street tire is the BF-Goodrich. It is as close to a R-comound tire as you can get.

For street driving the PZero and Yoko AVS Sport are pretty close. At the track the Pirelli is a very poor tire in terms of grip and last. the Pirelli's are hard as a rock after two track days and utterly useless on my Challenge car (I run street tires at some drivers schools that don't allow slicks).

The tread will look very good on the PZero after two days but the heat cycles change the composition of the rubber compound and the grip just disappears.

For street use the PZero's are ok but at the track they are junk in my opinion.

Frank,
I would say get the BF-Goodrich g-Force T/A KD tires that I have they are by far the best tire I have owned so far on any car. They are ok in the wet but really shine in the dry. MUCH better than my Pirelli's and the Michelin Pilot's I had on my ZR. Check out the tire racks comparison between the different sports tires they have a poll of what owners think as well as on the track testing. Here is a link to the review of the P-Zero's, Pilots, and BF's http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testResultsModel.jsp?tireModel=g-Force+T%2FA+KD&tireMkae=BFGoodrich

After a little research I have found that the P-Zero Rosso Corso tire would only give me about 2,000 miles of use. I would be changing tires three times a year! So I'm going to go with the regular P-Zero model that came on the car or maybe Michelin Pilot Sport even though that will hurt me at an FCA concours.

Frank-Although I haven't driven mile 1 on the tires shown in the picture, I can reasonably estimate through racing experience that those tires will be hell in damp/wet conditions. Since they have no wet channeling, I'm thinking that, unless you're limiting your driving to dry conditions, you may want to base your choice on more than looks. Remember--that's why you bought the car!

Randy I can not complain about the AVS. They are the most awesome rain tires. If you ever get in rain, boy what a great tire.
Also had them on the track and they did well. Sebring and Moroso.
It is a very well behaved tire. I really do not give a sh*t about how they look and if some concourse judge thinks only a italian tire is fit for a Ferrari.

Michelin Pilot Sport <== if money is not an issue, and extreme weather conditions are not an issue - in my opinion, the best handling tyre on the market

>> still doesn't get why AVS Sports are recommended. Sure, a neat tread pattern, but other than that, they don't perform well at all. <<

I agree. Although they are good, they are not as good as some other maximum performance tires such as the P-Zero, F1 Fiorano, etc.

As for the Rosso's - I wouldn't do it, unless your F-car only see dry weather and you see the occassional track day. Not worth the wait and extra dollars.

Frank,
I can recommend the Yokohama AVS.
A great tire. Why spend $$$ more for a tire that you can really only use on the track to its capacity.

Daily driving with the AVS is great. $ 189 rears and $ 160 fronts. On the fronts you have to go from 50 down to 45. No difference though!

The P-Zero Corsa is a DOT approved semi-slick otherwise known as an R-compound tire. Here's some info:

Frank,

I think the Corsa you are referring to is the new Pirelli R-compound tire for track use. It is DOT rated for street use but it's similar to a Hoosier, Kumho, and the outgoing Pirelli PZero C version in that it is a shaved tire (3/32nds) with maximum dry performance characteristics.

I also know that the tire still has not arrived in the US from what Tirerack told me last month.

The regular PZero Rosso is the full street version of this tire I believe and you can get them at any major Tire place that sells Pirelli.

Well since I have to now buy one new front tire because some jerk sliced it last night, and the rear ones were about worn out anyway, I was thinking about replacing all four with the new P-Zero Rosso Corso I've seen advertised in F1 magazine. I love the look of the tread pattern. Anyone out there have those tires on their Ferrari ? I have the regular P-Zeros now and want to stay with that brand/type tire.
