does anyone think 9500 miles on a 2001 is too much? if i was thinking of buying this car...what should i try and get done service-wise before buying it? what do you think is a fair price for a car with daytona seats, shelf, headliner, fire extinguisher, fiorano suspension package and modular wheels? |

If there is any way you could get the seats fitted to the barchetta (so-called racing seats, with carbon fiber frames) i would recommend it; they are the best seats i have ever encountered in a road car. The modular wheels seem to leak; i also like the carbon fiber package for the dash, since it makes it look a little less mundane. The fire extinguisher is rape and the luggage is too. I don't particularly like the scudie badge thing (on anything but a vintage alfa), but that's a matter of taste. Red Maranellos are, to my eyes, boring, but that is also subjective. I wouldn't be paying a whole lot of extra money for that stuff on a used car, and don't think its going to make that big a difference on resale. I'd probably rather have the new car that has been driven, than a older one that has been sitting, but its all a question of degree. |

This is very interesting...thanks for the link to the forza article. I love the 250 shelf and headliner and also the modular wheels. Do other 550 owner experience the "bottoming out" or hitting the front lip a lot? thanks ccr |

The fiorano package is worth every penny - however ground clearance is reduced further so you'll ground the belly of the 550 out easier... which can be a real problem. The suspension is stiffened, and the some of the servo assistance on the steering is also removed. Overall the car handles quite a bit better. The modular wheels look brilliant and I wish I'd got them, and the racing seats and harnesses are are also good because the stock seats are a little tight (and i'm not fat ) yet don't provide enough support when pressing on.

I'm not sure if thhelps but read it on the internet website http://www.theautochannel.com/publications/magazines/forza/number9/index.html then click on Options: Personalization Program. It reads in there about: One example is the Fiorano handling package which, in the particular case of Michael Schumacher's personal 550 Maranello (pictured on the opening page), consists of lowered (10 mm at the front, 15 mm at the back) and stiffened suspension using 25% stiffer springs and a bigger 21 mm rear anti-sway bar. That's fairly straightforward-where the Ferrari handling package differs from a normal tuner's repertoire is in the shock absorber settings.

i've been poking around the Maranello market for a while, and my opinion is that the seats and shelf are a big deal. in my mind they do make the car more desirable. that's just one man's opinion. whether it'll get to the "chairs and flares" level of the dinos 30 years from now, who knows, but it certainly seems to make a diff there. i too have seen mention of this handling package and would like to know what it is. doody. |

Can anyone tell me what this is? I've seen some 550s listed with this as an option and i'm wondering if this is desirable or not? does it make the handling more sporty (firm) or soft? What does it entail? Does anyone think that a 2001 550 with all the options will hold its value better than a 2000 or 2001 without the modular wheels, 250 shelf etc,? I'm wondering whether to pay a premium for these options or just pick up the base model for less money. Also...would you all rather have a newer model year, 2000 or 2001 with more miles or a 98 or 99 with less miles? I don't plan on selling it but i'm sure if the 575 prices come down someday it would be tempting to trade up. any help appreciated. ccr |
