Modman, something must be wrong with your 348 A/C. The a/c in my 348 is every bit as good as the one in my BMW. And Najib, the a/c system in a 348 is made in Japan . |

To Peter K, See my post of yestersday in the Tech Q&A. It sounds to me that your Mondial is suffering from the same problem as my own i.e. the a/c control switch |

Modman I drive in 48c which means it can get up to 50c in the car when parked. Without the A/C one would roast inside. But the air-con in my 348 is more than adequate to keep the car cool and very comfortable even when its not blowing at full. Dont compare it to a Japanese air-con (Toyata or Nissan) but its pretty much up with the rest. |

My Mondial's A/C is not all that cold either. But then again it's an 86 car. However, on a few lucky occasions I do get fairly cold air from the A/C. |

I never found the AC worth having on the 348 and that pretty much goes for most Italian cars if not all. It gets hot where I'm at and the AC is pretty much worthless in either the Ferrari or Lambo. Anyone with the same problem? I never found them to blow as much cold air as like with any of my other vehicles. |

Darius, It depends on what service you do. For the 20000km service the following services are planned: 1. Change engine oil and filter (at least once a year) 2. Check gearbox/differential oil level 3. Change gearbox/differential oil level (every two years) 4. Check tension of alternator and air conditioning compressor belts 5. Check sparking plugs (replace if necessary) and check ignition connections 6. Check valve clearances and cylinder head bolt torque (adjust if necessary) 7. Check condition of timing belt 8. Check cooling system connections and hoses 9. Check injection system connections and piping 10. Inspect pipes and connections of secondary air injection system 11. Replace fuel system filters 12. Check evaporative emission control system: lines and connections 13. Replace air filter element 14. Tighten screws, nuts, bolts (including those on the exhaust system), connections, clips and strips in general 15. Check carburation and emission concentration 16. Check level of fluid for brakes and clutch (possible bleeding) 17. Inspect brake system: pipes/hoses, calipers, connections. Check efficiency of warning lights on the dashboard 18. Inspection state of wear of braking surfaces (discs, pads) if necessary 19. Check operation of handbrake 20. Check front and rear suspension joints and their tightening 21. Check steering component, joint protection and gaiters on the steering rack, steering levers and on the driving shaft 22. Check car attitude (adjust if neccesary) 23. Inspect air conditioning system (annual replacement of freon and filter). Check level of oil in the compression 24. Tighten screws and bolts on the bodywork 25. Check and lubricate controls and adjusters in general, hinges, doors and engine cover 26. Check correct operation and securing of the seats and seat belts 27. Battery: Check state of charge, connections and electolyte level 28. Check the starter motor current drain and alternator change 29. Check headlight adjustment 30. Check and protect the chassis (every two years) 30. When work done, check tyre pressure and their condition, the indicators on the dashboard, the lights and stop lights and then road test the car 31. After road test make sure that tighten the wheels Quite a lot,uh!If you are intersted in other services I could scan the pages of the technical manual. Con saluti cordiali, Jens Haller |

Martin, I have my cambelt on for 2 and a half years now. The service book says you should change the belt all 35 to 40000 km or after 3 years. Since I havent done the kilometers I am wondering whether it is really necessary to change the belts all three years? Darius, Had some strange problems with the A/C in my 348 as well. Official Ferrari dealers wanted to exchange not to repair (costs around 750 Euro for the whole unit). Mostly some connections of the mainboard are damaged. Give it to a normal electrician and tell him to solder over all connections on the board. You can easily do this yourself in about one hour if you got an soldering iron. Got a friend whon did that for a couple of beers at the pub. Saved some 720 Euro that way and the A/C is working perfectly ever since. Con saluti cordialissimi, Jens Haller |

Have the belt checked for wear. Likely none. You can usually hear if the belt needs work. When cold the beld flaps around and hits some housing parts. Your mechanic can also check if the belt has too much play. As I said before it is the pully and tensioners that have a tough time, not really the belt! |

Darius, you mean you haven't had it changed since 91? If so, you probably should change it pretty soon just to be safe. I don't think it's going to be cheap in HK. Probably cost you over $15K. Suggest you take it down to a reputable shop and get it checked out, along with your AC. |
