Thanks, very nice of you. I have driven several 360's and my car is problem-free. Can i still make them perform this preventive maintenance even if I do not yet have a problem? Warranty runs out Dec 2003, so I still have some time.

Solly, neither, but it is very well know problem thru the FNA dealers. The local dealer here in new york told me he has seen most of the 6 speed with the same problem. The clutch will get stickier and it feel like if the car is rolling on first gear. You are more than welcome to drive my car to see if there is a difference.

Eli- is this a formal recall from FNA or have they issued a service bulletin? My 2001 360 has 4,000 miles with no clutch problems. Can I demand that the dealer do the work now while it's under warranty, or do I have to wait until a problem develops? I thought that the warranty usually won't cover anticipated problems unless FNA has issued a bulletin.

Who is Steve Ahlgrim?

Ernesto

PS. You would have to tear my right arm off to take my 360M away! Well, maybe handing over the keys to an Enzo may do the trick! Heh heh..

I got some appreciation for my TRs clutch position when I saw a late model 911 turbo in for clutch job at my mechanic's shop. The whole damn engine, tranny and all had to come out. Yikes!!

Scott:

You should also have them check your brakes. Have your brake pedal get hard as rock just after you start up your car?

No need to argue guys, its good to know how much these repairs / parts cost just in case a few of us have already surpassed our warranties. Like me.

Anyways, anyone know how much a new clutch will cost on a 355?

This has been discussed on this forum before, though it is good to remind people of it. My car has the issue, and will be fixed this fall. Dealer said they needed the car for 3 days or so, didn't specify a price (since it is a warranty issue). If anyone has a Euro with the problem or some other reason why the warranty is not in effect, let me know and I will also try to get a price quote.

If you remember, the clutch on the F355/F348 were at the back of the vehicle, with reletively easy access (1hr off 1 hr on) and a $2000 clutch kit.

The clutch on the 360 is back in a conventional position between the engine and the tranny. So you have to pull the tranny to get at the clutch. Pulling the tranny means you have to detach a variety of suspension and driveline stuff. A lot more work than on the F355.

I was told inorder for them to change the bearing that the complete transmission must be taken apart. I honestly don't know how many hours it takes to take the transmission down. My car was there for almost two weeks. i will try to find out next time i am in there for a service call,

No need to trouble yourself. But next time you talk to the dealer, you may want to ask the breakdown with the parts involved. I am curious only because it sounded like a minor part is being replaced.

Thanks much!

Rick,

I think you need the PROZAC. I am NOT making fun of anyone here. Just trying to understand why this repair costs so much. Sorry I asked.

Now, you go and get yourself a life!

I did not ask the dealer how he came up with the $5k-$6K figure. I did not have to. the car is still under warranty. I will find out if you realy need to know.

WOW! It must be an expensive part, then. Eighteen hours cannot possibly add up to more than $1800.

There is a well known problem with many 00-01 360 6 speed clutch. After about 2K-3k miles the clutch will start sticking.

The clutch release bearing guide support and sleaves needs to be changed and let me tell you it is extremly expensive. so take your car to the dealer before the warranty runs out. You don't want to pay for this repair out of your own pocket. It is an 18 hour job.

There is also vacume leak in the brake booster system which is very common.
