There is an ad in a Danish car magazine this month about a 4 day course in an F1 car in Sweden. Cost was around 3000 or 3500 dollars US. I'll see if I can find more information when I finish unpacking.

There are also some deals for a "racing experience" in a 360 Challenge car in Denmark. The costs started from around $200, but I am not sure how much track time you get. A full day was under $1000 and included seat time in the 360, a Volvo touring car, a Renault Spyder, and a Formula Lotus. I tried to sign up for a few of the track deals, but they were booked until mid-September - a little late for my vacation there.

Last year, there was a group called Formula Won starting up in California. They had some Arrows cars and were aiming for something like that. They had a range of packages, the top of which was supposed to simulate a true F1 experience. They would fly you out in a private jet, limos everywhere, First-Class suites, GP driver treatment at the track plus champagne podium, etc. It cost a ton of money--somewhere between $50-$75K--but I think it has since gone under.

Car & Driver did an article on the Shannonville school a few years ago. It sounded like an expensive way to kill yourself.

I checked it out also - thinking it would be fun - it's an old Benneton car I hear. BUT you drive a sedan then 2 different tyoes of open wheel cars until you get your 6 laps.......Mosport would be more fun then Shannonville.

It's pricey - Ferrari Pilota course is the same price for THREE days

Amir:

I asked about the "drive an F1 program" here's the correspondence I recieved:

"Dear Hubert,
Thank you for your interest in Raceinc International's programs. The 'Drive
an F1' program is a one day course held at Shannonville Motorsport Park just
2 hours east of Toronto. For those who are travelling from out of town we
suggest that they stay near the track because the program starts at 8:00am.
Raceinc can make the necessary arrangements for accommodations but it is not
included in the price. The costs of the 'Drive an F1' program is $8000 USD
and it includes loan of equipment (nomex racing suit, gloves, balaclava,
socks, helmet, and shoes), snacks and refreshments throughout the day, and
catered meals at the track (continental breakfast and lunch). If I can be
of any assistance please do not hesitate to e-mail or call me at
416-968-0508.
Thanks again and I hope to see you soon at the track.
Patrick Xuereb Jr."

To answer your question Amir, in 1997, they would assemble groups of 4-6 people at $8,500 US or you could reserve a day for yourself at $52,000.

Of course, that was in 1997. The prices may have changed since.
