Steve, Oliver: An F-dealer told me that the so-called Ansa aftermarket muffler is in reality the stock Euro muffer, or close to it. Apparently Ansa is/was the OEM supplier in these early cars, for both the US ("thermal reactor") and Euro versions. |

To hear a sound file for 308/QV stock muffler but with Stebro cat bypass pipe which also contains a "resonance chamber" to deepen the sound, go to www.TradeTutor.com/tgpr/ and click on the small icon in the upper left-hand corner. Just that $300 part made a BIG difference in sound and accelleration. A very cost effective improvement if your existing muffler is still in good shape.

Steve, I take it the muffler shown with the converters installed is what my 79 should look like as well (being a US model). Mine has 4 tips, no converters but the inlet pipes enter the muffler on the ends rather than the body like your pic. I dont know what muffler I have. Its a very large canister, smooth and plain looking. |

Stu, let me get this straight...your exhaust is too loud to hold a conversation with your wife while DRIVING YOUR FERRARI!!! Where does the problem lie? LOL! |

I'm probably in the minority here...but I recently installed a Tubi on my '85 QV and I'm not happy with it. Oh, I love the sound - it's just that I don't need it to be the only sound I hear! It's just too loud for my taste Really a bummer as I spent a lot of money installing it in conjuction with Nick's ignition system - which was supposed to be the "killer" combo for the 308. I like the results, it's just that I don't like having to yell to have a conversation with my wife while out for a drive. Oh well, live and learn. Anybody aware of a way to quiet the Tubi down a bit? |

Steve, Early European 308 GTBs had a single tip exhaust on the driver's side as pictured here.
My 1976 fiberglass GTB has dual twin tip exhausts and a similar valance as to what's pictured above. Barry |

Hey Jerry - any way to post a sound file of the Tubi on your 308? Would love to hear it! |

Steve, My car is a US 79 308 GTS and has the orig. muffler. It has dual tips on both sides. |

Oliver -- It might look like a stock standard (euro) version system, but the stock '78 308GTB/S US version is quite different as shown below:
I'm not sure, but didn't the standard version 308 mufflers just have a single tip on each side (rather than the twin tips on the US cars)? |

Steve M (91TR) that Ansa to me looks just like the stock system. I wonder what makes the difference? |

Thanks guys. Next step is to hear the different sounds for each. Anybody got 8 cyl. living near San Juan Capistrano, CA with a Tubi, Stebro, Ansa and or Borla that I could come hear. |

Oliver, My 1976 308 GTB has an Ansa exhaust system installed. It has a very pleasing sound. A little tinny when the muffler is cold, but a nice throaty sound when the muffler heats up. It has nice dual chrome tips as well. I know that Ansa systems are notorious for rusting of the tips, but this does not seem to be the case with the Ansa mufflers for Ferraris. Mine has been in place for 15 years and there is no sign of rusting. The black paint on the muffler is prone to flaking off, but this should not be a factor on your 1978 with the baffle/shield covering the muffler as it does. Barry |

I have a TUBI on my '79 308, which is exactly the same as your '78. I would never NOT have a Ferrari Without a Tubi now. The sound is what does it for me! |

Borla's may be discontinued, but Stebro still makes one for the 308. I've purchased their stuff before -- main difference between that and the Tubi is that Tubi's are highly polished, but they don't show on a 308 anyway! And they're about $1000 less than the Tubi. |

Tubi does make an exhaust for the 308, I have one on my '82. I purchased it last December from Nick Scianna (NICKSFORZAFERRARI.COM). Nick should be able to hook you up with one for your 308. I tried to get a BORLA exhaust before settling for a TUBI, but they've been discontinued for a while. |

Sure they did. I have one on my 84 308. I know they make them for the injected 80-82 cars as well. Maybe yours is the same as the 80-82 cars with 2 cats. |

I've got a Tubi catalog and it says that part #01097811000 is a "silencer" for 308 GTB/S and Dino 308 GT/4 US/JP. It's listed as being for years 1978-1979 and has a list price of $2,345.00. |

I have heard that Tubi didn't make a system for the 308's (Mine is a 1978). Is this true and what other systems will work and sound the best for the 308 series? I'm in Southern California and would like to see and hear the system other members in the area. |
