Stu...

No problem... I bought the gas strut for my car and paid $129 from Italian Car Parts. When I tried it on my car (which has a small kink), it did exert too much pressure and caused a bulge around the kinked area. I assumed that it was because of my kinked bonnet. If it's NFG, I'll pitch it in the dumpster...

Craig,
Not trying to discredit your information, but I bought the same OEM strut from Ferrari and it does not work! It's much to strong of a strut and puts far too much pressure on your hood. Consequently, I ended up rebuilding my original "button strut" also. FYI...I paid only $27.69 from Ferrari of Seattle for the gas strut with Ferrari lettering. Again, not trying to discredit your message, I just think anytime we can assist our fellow Ferrari owners, it's in everyone's best interest.

Sam... I have a gas strut for sale that I never used:

Under "For Sale"
I ordered a new gas spring strut for my 328 and ended up rebuilding the original. This is a genuine OEM Ferrari part (with the "Ferrari" lettering). If you're tired of pushing the button (or reminding others to push the button) before you close the front bonnet, then this may be what you want. Just a gas spring to hold it open ....
I will send it to you freight prepaid for $100.00. I can take Visa or Mastercard.

Stu,

thanks, that little button thing has cost more ferrari owners more money than anything else! I am on the right coast so I will have to continue shopping. The permanent solutions are 1) find a very gentle gas supported strut to replace this button activated one 2) never ever let anyone touch your ferrari 3) carry a gun 4) all of the above! If anyone figures out #1 - let me know the source and part #. If I get this fixed, I never want to go throught this needless damage again.

Stu, checked out the stongard website, but the cost is a little steep. Wondering if you know where to purchase a cloth bra for 308's? Thanks in advance.

Sam,
I understand! I had to go to 5 different "high-end" body shops before I found one that would work with aluminum and guarantee being able to do a good job. My kink was from the dreaded "forgot to push the button on the strut first" mistake (not me, previous owner). After repairing the crack in the aluminum brace on the inside edge of the hood, they straightened out the top of the hood to lye flush with the fenders, and then are repainting (tomorrow!) the hood and blending both fenders - all for a little under $2k (I did some of the prep work to save a few bucks). Not cheap, but I hated people coming up to my beautiful car and saying "what's that bump on the hood from?" The shop doing the work is Queen City Auto Rebuild at 425-869-6436. They do all the repairs for Ferrari of Seattle.

Check out the product called "stongard" at www.stongard.com. I don't know if they offer a kit for the 308 but if they do, it's much better than a cloth bra. Cloth bras, in my opinion, do more harm than good. I put the stongard on my Porsche and after 15K not one stone chip anywhere. I haven't put it on my Ferrari yet but will consider it as soon as I get it out of paint shop (having kink in front hood repaired). Good luck...and let us know what you decide.

Does anyone know if there is a bra available for the 308? I have a '77 308GTB, with the optional european front spoiler. Haven't seen any advertised. If not, what alternate protection is available?
Any information would be appreciated..thanks...
