Jim E- My best friend and I put down Griotts in his garage going on 6 years ago and his garage looks so better than mine which was painted using the Baer brand. He hasn't had any lifting, peeling, or scratching of any kind. (and yes we use that garage to build many project cars so it sees its share of abuse)

Go to some local auto or truck repair facilities in your area and look at the service bays. If you like what you see, ask what contractor does them.

Eli, that's the tool I've used to clean my garage out for years..... the blower.

Jim, I've been told the most critical part of painting/staining a garage floor is the acid wash preparation.... it removes the smoothness from the concrete and brings out the sandy grit. This gives the paint something to adhere to.... so I've been told.

Has anyone tried the Griots floor paint? As with everything they sell, they make it sound like NOTHING is better, but my experience w/ painted concrete isn't good. I scrape a few square inches of paint off my floor every time I go in and out.

If your tiles are the kind with holes in them (ie: not the solid ones) you can vaccuum them with your shop vac (mine has a nice wide attachment and tons of sucking power.

LOL re: the F40 -vs- furniture comment :-)

BobD - thats what I mean about the tile, its cool but cleaning can be a real bummer, yes you would need to dismantle it. it will come apart in as large a sections as you like. you dont have to take it all the way down to 1'x1'.

threesixty - the house is 1920 sq ft.

just kidding - its 6600. the wife got the house, everything she wanted inside and new furniture. when I started to complain about the price of all the new furniture she politly said "I dont think I'm even getting close to the price of that F40 yet" I had to concede.

Tim, how do you clean the floor when the leaves and dirt blow into the garage in the fall? It doesn't look like something you can take a broom or blower to. Do you have to dismantle the whole thing... just curious?

Eli - your right about the paint. anything for the garage floor has its trade offs, concrete, carpet, motormat, paint, etc.

tuffdeck, racedeck, kiwi, they are all pretty much the same product. it seems they all come from Utah. must be a lot of defectors from one company going off and starting their own with a knock off product but not much of a knock off when they all look the same.

yes you can use a jack on the floor, treat it like concrete from that standpoint.

a couch in the garage is a great idea - I have two with one lazy boy and two single chairs. all are leather for easy clean up. I am also mounting a LCD projector from the ceiling so I can watch F1 races on a 10'x10' screen in my garage with full surround sound.

I just finished building this house two months ago and am not completely moved in which is why the huge mess. I have a ton of red cabinets coming with yellow counter tops. the main garage is 3000 sq ft with 16' ceiling height. has bathroom, compressor room, laundry room for rags three sinks, two fridges, etc. once the garage was complete I found it too small so I added a 1200 sq ft seperate workshop. you can see the door to the left of the viper. this way woodworking, welding, etc. the dust will not get the cars all dirty.

the buggy is built by a company called
funco-motorsports.com this is my 2nd car from them but I have had 5 others cars previous. it has a 550HP subaru motor and bar non is the quickest thing in the garage and a ton of fun.

the dunes I go to every chance I get starting in Oct. are located beetween Yuma, AZ and Blyth, CA. I gotta tell you, its more fun than driving any f car you can think of.

Has anyone tried RaceDeck by TuffDeck? It's metal tiles. Wondering how well it works.

Tim.

I hear you point about cleaing the floor underneath the mats but i was just fed up with painting my garage floor every few months and as soon as i drive over it the paint will come right off.

Honestly i am very happy with the motormat product and also your mats look like they have bigger holes and will leak more than the motormats. but i have to tell you the black and white looks realy nice too.

Tim's Garage looks like some people's loft apartment. If I'm ever in your neighborhood can I crash in your garage?

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT DUNE BUGGY? It looks like this remote control car that I put together when I was a kid, it was called the grasshopper.

I like how Tim has this beautiful floor and garage and yet he still has a hint of messiness. My kind of guy.

Is that garage attached to your house? It doesn't look like it was intended to be a garage. MOre like a basement conversion.

p.s. nice F40. It adds that extra umph to your garage.

I used to sell motormat but was unhappy with the product only because it shows dust when you walk on it. I now sell a product called Tylon made by sport court that also makes the motormat product. you can see the product at tylonflooring.com or at my web site CenturyCustomCoach.com. it does not come in as many colors as motormat. it does go together and come apart MUCH easier that motormat. I used both of these products when we display our coach at shows. the motormat is dirty before your done setting it up, the Tylon never looks dirty.

Personally I dont like either one in a garage just because anything that goes thru it stays there until you remove the floor and clean under it. On the other hand, if you dont see it on the floor and only have to clean your garage every 6 to 12 months maybe thats not bad either. its great for shows like I was doing but IMHO I hate it in my garage. its a GREAT look as you can see by Eli's garage but once you remove it to clean up you will have a hard time wanting to reinstall it. but like anything else, everyone has their own opinion. its hard not to want to install the product because it makes the garage look so good. anyway, just my 1 cents worth.

again if anyone wants either one, motormat or tylon, I will sell it to you at my cost (dont remember what my cost is but I think under $2.00 per foot). I will order it for you from sport court and have it shipped directly to your home or business and the invoice from them will be enclosed with the product so you will see the exact cost of it. I am making no money on this just trying to help my f-chat friends.

if you guys want motor mat or the other product they sell called Tylon, which I like much better, I can get it for you at a discount as I am a distributor. I will sell it to f-chat folks for the same thing I pay for it which I think is about $2. ft -v- 2.60 if you call them direct. if anyone is interested just let me know.

Todd, May be i just jumped the gun. I paid for everything $1100 including delivery charges and have some about 25 tiles left over. so figure in between $300-$325. It will be probably cheaper if you want one color. this way your left over will not be as much since you have to buy minimum of one case per color.

Todd, I would say in between $250-$300. they sell them per case only, 20 tiles per case for $52.00 each tile 1s" by 12" . the edges will run you about $.85 per piece.

doody:

the black edging is just anonther tile which snaps on and acts as a ramp. The tiles do not affix to concrete. It just that when you lay them down and snap them together they will interlock and are very hard to move and can be removed very easily. Checkout their website www.motormat.com they have some very nice pics.

i was guessing snap tiles. i'm putting down snaps from kiwi in my garage (pictures when finished), and they are painfully trivial to install. etching concrete and nasty paints are for the birds.

it looks like you have two "pads" of tiles - how did you affix them to the concrete? or is that black edging just another tile inlaid instead of a ramp edge?

doody.
