I just found this interesting article about the TR(s) used in Miami Vice and thought I'd share it:

The Testarossa debuted in the 1986 fall season opener as a black version driven by IRA gunrunner Sean Carroon.[9] The exoticar was a fitting image for high rolling terrorists dealing in hand held Stinger missiles. Although the episode credits read "Crockett's Car Furnished by Ferrari North America", Sonny was yet to drive his new car.

Michael Mann needed a plot device to introduce the Testarossa, so he had the gunrunners launch a Stinger missile at Crockett's prized Daytona and blew it up before his very eyes.[10] A month later (the next episode), Lt. Castillo told a still-grieving Crockett to check out back for his new car. Sonny was greeted by a white Testarossa,[11] Florida license plate ATF00M. He proudly recited the specs of his new toy to Rico, "345 hp and 180 mph!" Much like his treatment of women, Sonny soon forgot about his past relationship and eagerly moved on to the new.

Two show cars were provided by Ferrari North America and were originally delivered black, but were later repainted white for better contrast at night. In addition, a stunt car was created by the Roberts Motor Co. by beefing up a 1972 DeTomaso Pantera chassis with salvaged Testarossa body parts.[12] The mid-engined Pantera replicated the Ferrari much closer than the Corvettes which were used to create the Daytona look-alikes.

I just saw a movie "Exposure" with Ron Silver plays a photographer for "men's" magazines and the owner or publisher is a little sleazy guy and drives a Testarossa. I don't think it is a real one because it has an early Testarossa grill and two intakes on the front spoiler like the 512TR. Besides the sound is just not right.

Cool J. and Rebbeca Romain Stamos there is a red 355GTB [TB/GTS/TS??] that our hero L.L. Cool J. uses as a springboard to hop into his ride, can't remember either conv. 'vette or Shelby series 1.man, i wanted to just b**** slap him for that.

I just saw the movie "The Rookie" with Clint Eastwood and Charlie Sheen. At the beginning of the movie the car thieves steal (probably a replica) a red Daytona Spyder and they drive it onto an auto carrier.

The car gets trashed when the thieves unload all the stolen cars while careening down the interstate!

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but....

was fast-forwarding to the next recorded episode of Magnum P.I. last night and caught the intro to an episode of Murder She Wrote. The name of the episode was "Ship of Thieves", and it featured a very nice sounding yellow 348 Spider at the opening of the show.

Now, what to do with all these Magnum P.I. tapes -- I'm running out of storage space in my home office!

Jason, Harlan, how could I have forgotten that one? The red Ferrari in the garage scene of Ronin is a series II 250GT Cabriolet. The blue 456GT is parked in front of the hotel in Nice as DeNiro and McElhone arrive.

Also im not sure if anyone mentioned the movie Army of one. There was a really long chase with an F40 and a Countach as well as an F40 burnout. It was a bad chase scene because the Countach kept up but the F40 the whole way. The F40 was also chased by state troopers and that was fun to watch. You know they couldnt keep up :-)

I think everyone has mentioned all the ones that I saw, and some I haven't seen, but there is also a NBA MVP commercial for people to vote on the MVP, and one of the players moves a "Student Driver" sign from some old sedan to a 308. I don't follow the NBA, but I would have voted for him.

I most correct my previous post. I made mention that I saw actress Ali McGraw on a talk show years ago indicating that she had owned a California Spyder years earlier. I did some digging on the history of various Ferraris on www.barchetta.cc . After digging through the data, I believe that I have my actresses mixed up. I always did get Ali McGraw and Barbara Hershey confused because they were both in alot of older movies and both had long brown hair. Well anyway, under the SWB California Spyder history file, it seems that serial number 2903GT was owned by Barbara Hershey. I will assume that this is the actress of the same name. So please pardon my previous blunder. Of course in the real world sense, I am no closer to either a Ferrari California Spyder, or a beautiful Hollywood actress.

Brief glimpse of a 456 in Tommorrow Never Dies, as Bond is walking into the media HQ.

Black TR in a shoe commercial; basketball player jumps over car to make a dunk.

Black 550 in Orange County (movie).

308 in Scarface; as Tony is running out of club, parked next to door.

Red 328 in Can't Buy Me Love (movie).

360 Modena in Undercover Brother (movie).

Bunch of fake F40's in Army of One (movie).

The old TV show "Hart to Hart" opens with Robert Wagner drivng a Dino His wife in a MB.

The new Bond film for Nov. 02 looks like its going to have some nice F-cars in it.

All time best is "Golden Eye" loved that wicked smile from bad bond girl in the 355. If you watched when she spins it, you can see the big shoulders of stunt driver in a dress. :-)

OK, now my 2 cents worth. They're not Ferrari movie sightings but obscure Corvette sightings.

1. Diamonds are Forever (I think that's the one). James Bond, 1970. Jill St. John is stalling the bad guys at a gas station while Bond hops in the back of their van. As she walks across the gas station lot, a blue 1958(?) Corvette is parked in the background.

2. The Graduate. 1968. Near the end of the movie, Dustin Hoffman runs out of gas in his Alfa Romeo spyder while chasing Ali McGraw and runs into the nearest gas station. If you look closely, there is a red 1961/2 Corvette parked in the gas station lot. Interesting bit of trivia: I saw Ali McGraw on a talk show one time where she mentioned that she had bought a Ferrari Spyder back in the sixties but had later sold it. She made some mention of it later being sold to Japan for an incredible amount of money. Any info on her car?

3. Kid Galahad. (late 50s) Elvis Presley. Elvis plays a boxer having a match at some upstate New York camp. There are a few shots of a '55 Corvette driving around.

4. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World. 1963. While Spenser Tracy is running from the crazy mob with the satchel of cash, there are numerous shots of a '55 Corvette driving back and forth. It must have been one of several background cars specifically used for the production, because you can see it several times in several scenes.

4. Redline 7000. 1966. UNKNOWN car, possibly a Ford Daytona Coupe or a Ferrari? The head honcho driver runs off into a ditch and hitches a ride with a bimbo babe. I haven't seen this movie in a long time. What kind of car was he driving? Was it a Ferrari?

To Live and Die in LA had Wilem Defoe driving a black 308 GTB Euro with right hand drive. They had a scene with the car driving away through some desert mountains shifting at redline, exhaust sounds echoing of off the rocks. Glorious sounds! After hearing that, I knew that sooner or later I had to own a car that made those great noises.

Does anyone remember the Goodyear tire comercial back in the 80's? It has a few Ferraris driving on a twisty road. The narrator says, "Why does every new Ferrari shipped to the U.S. come exclusively on goodyear Eagle tires?" Then the cars stop, and Enzo gets out of one and the narrator says, "Because Mr. Ferrari wants it that way." I have been trying to find it on the web, but I haven't had any luck.

I just saw XXX with Vin Diesel last night. Best part of the movie, the collection of Ferraris and other exotics Vin's character is purchasing from some terrorist. Testarossas, Modenas, 355s, etc. Worst part, the highlight of the movie was a Pontiac GTO. Good looking but not my cup of tea.

There was a yellow 246 Dino in an episode of "Alice". It was parked out back in the alley behind Mel's Diner. LA Law had 2 shows with Ferraris also. A red Mondial Cab (driven by some girl Arnold was hitting on in a supermarket parking lot) and a 246 that some lawyer was learning to drive in.
Anybody seen these?

Not that it matters, but the incorrectly dated inspection sticker was on the Mustang, not the fakey-do Ferrari and it wasn't put there on purpose. In fact, in the director's commentary on the DVD, Cameron Crowe says he didn't know about it until later when someone pointed it out as a reason why they thought the entire film was a dream from beginning to end. He says he didn't intend it to be interpreted that way but is glad to see that there have been such diverse interpretations. I was hoping there would be some commentary on the fake F-car, but no such luck.

Okay, got bored and did some searching on the Vanilla Sky fake ferrari. It was a fake and the explanation is that basically the whole movie is a dream and it is laden with references to dreams and reality. Even the inspection sticker on the car expires 2-30-01 which is a fake date. So the ferrari is fake to subliminally support the movie. Call me Magnum P.I.....wait he drove a ferrari too...was it real....wait I'm thinking of the fake Daytona in Miami Vice

RE: Vanilla Sky,

Definitely a Nissan rebodied with a GTO kit. Wacked out proportions and cheap looking non-Borrani wires. Even the brief interior shots reveal its Z-car origins. If I'm going to dream about driving a GTO, you better believe it'll be the real thing!

I wondered about the Vanilla Sky movie as well. When he is driving the Mustang in reality they have a big "almost crash" scene so maybe they didn't want to spin out a real vintage f-car???

Here's a really good question:

Vanilla Sky:

Tom Cruise drives a vintage F- car in a dream sequence. What F- car is that?

AND, when he wakes up everything in his dream comes true EXCEPT he is not driving the F-, he is driving a Ford or something like that. Why would the director change that part of the dream?? I always wondered that

A red 308 GTB in a late night movie (you know the kind, late at night, and suddenly you say to yourself, "why the hell am I watching this?"), called "Red Line". Steve McQueens' son Chad, Dom DeLuise, Michael Madsen, Corey Haim (they all must have needed mortgage payments). Anyway some nice cruising shots of a 308 in LA.

A lot of good adds to the original list. There was also a fleeting glimpse of a 355B or S in Kiss of the Dragon, with Jet Li, just before Jet Li enters the hotel in the earlier part of the movie.

Hope the original list gets appended to, so that all these new adds are permanently recorded for future renditions.

I don't think I saw "Gone in 60 Seconds" on that list--they steal a bunch of F-cars in that, and "Fast and the Furious" has a stop light drag scene with a black F355 Spider.
And though I haven't seen it, I remember in the trailer for "Vanilla Sky" there is some older/vintage model

Just remembered another one:

A commercial for a small chev car? where a Rolls Royce stops at a light then a black TR stops right alongside then a small chev with 4 young people inside stops and starts to laugh. The small chev pulls out and the two gentlemen in the Rolls and TR look at each other then pull away.

Doesn't anyone remember the Black Testarossa on the "Bugle Boy Jeans" commercial? That was my favorite. Mid to late 80's.

There's a nice (but short) scene with a lineup of 360s, 355s and Testarossas in xXx. "High End Pasta Rockets". Looks like there's 360s in the new Bond flick and that Eddie Murphy spy movie, according to the trailers.

xXx is a decent flick, by the way.

Great List! Did they miss the red Ferrari (BBi I think) in No Man's Land?

And of course Charlie's Angels, Swordfish...

We have been over this one a few times not that there is anything wrong with that. Maybe we can get a few new ones.

Wow! Thanks!

I never realized there were so many F cars featured. Looks like a video and cd collection I'll have to persue! :-)

Hi guys and gals,

I was thinking last night of what Ferraris are seen in movies and commercials and came up with a small list which I know is totally incomplete:

1. The Hidden - great cult movie with a chase seen right at the start with a black 308 which is later trashed and shot at. A red mondial is in it also.

2. Ghost - A parked red TR where patrick Swayze comments on it.

3. Magnum PI and Miami Vice

4. I remember a Pirelli commercial where Enzo himself jumps out of a 308 or 328 and the commentator says all Ferraris come with Pirellis because Mr. Ferrari wants it that way!

5. A ladies perfume commercial? where a guy drives a black 512 boxer in the pouring rain?

6. A Chrysler commercial where a black TR is racing a minivan on a wet oval track and then slides into the grass.

I can't think of any more. Anyone remember these and more?
