I am driving my second new Hummer in the past 5 years, and love it, especially on the road. My current H-1 will cruise comfortably at 85 MPH on the interstate. I really like the look of the H-2 and may buy one.

Has anybody read the review in CAR? I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with them. The H2 looks great from any point of view.

My $.02: The original Hummer is the ultimate offroad machine but is more than worthless on the road and very expensive for a vehicle with such limited use. The H2 is the next-to-ultimate offroad machine but, being based on GM's existing GMT820 truck platform (Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade), it can do double duty as a family hauler and daily commuter for much less $ than the original Hummer or even the MBenz G-class, another competent on-road/off-roader.

As far as appearances, it's not to my taste but it's not Edsel/Pacer/Aztec ugly, either. It is, however, exactly what the brand needed: a less expensive, more user-friendly stablemate. Kind of like the Dino was to the Daytona or any modern Ferrari is to the F40, F50 and Enzo(to put it into perspective for you F-car owners).

A bastardization of an at least honest machine.

The H2 is the rapper-mobile for the middle-lower class with absolutely no origionality (at least the civilian owners of the origional Hummvee at least just had no class :-)

I think the Audi Allroad has more ground clearance, and better off-road capabilities :P

Best!
Ben.

(The origional Hummvee is still in an offroad class by itself.)

Here in Houston, there all over the place. I've seen 6 of them today. Within a year, that Frankentruck SUV will crowd used car lots. I'll get the diagrams & part prices for my body shop within 6 month or so. This should be interesting for insurance companies.

Inside it looks like typical GM switchgear. Just another re-badge job for GM.

In Phoenix, I have seen at least two a day for the couple months. They are so Ugly. They look more top heavy than any other SUV on the market. It looks like a kit of a Hummer.

Yet another ugly poor performing top heavy SUV to have to look up to in traffic. I hate them and wish they would all just go away. Hopefully the new CAFE standards will make all these auto makers think twice about producing these pieces of crap they market to us as safe. They're not and always score worse in crash test than a quality four door sedan.

A friend of mine has one and took it to a park over the weekend. He has gotten too many questions/attention that he just stayed with the truck the whole time. It is a Tahoe with a different skin. It looks nice (exotic looking) but I lost interest when I saw another one on my way home.

Isn't the H2 based on a Tahoe or something? I think I read it is not based on a real military-style Hummer with its incresible offroad capabilities, thereby making it just another GM truck with new metal. I could be mistaken.

That thing is a trendy, jacked up station wagon. I feel very sorry for the idiots who will try for re-sale once the trend goes by. It's almost as ugly as the Pontiac Aztek.

It does feel cramped inside, because of the low roof. Kinda like a chopped '32 coupe.

I couple of weeks ago I did an inspection on one for my mortgage guy. It felt a little cramped inside, but the outside was huge. His wife drives it and she said it smaller inside the Expidition she had before. They look cool, but their only a Suburban on steriods.

The first Hummer was built for the millitary with no engineering thought of ever driving it on the road. They are soooo wide they don't make a very good road car.

What's interesting about the H2 is that GM built it on one of their current production chassis. So GM has two SUV's on the road now using the same basic parts. To me that makes the H2 a bit of a kit car . Just a strange re-body not a real new remake of the Millitary Hummmer.

I had a ride in one this weekend. We were guests of GM at the Dream Cruise and they were using them to shuttle guests over to their hospitality area on Woodward Ave. The most amazing thing is how little luggage space there is. The back is dominated by a jump seat and a spare. Any luggage, groceries, etc. need to be piled on top ot them!

I think they look larger than they really are. A very well respected auto journalist I know says it is the only SUV he'd buy. Apparently, it is a pretty capable machine.

To each his own.

Saw one the other day. Driven by a small female who could barely see out. Personally, I think the H2 is OK if you plan use it as intended (cross-country trips and off-road).

GM lost their marbles years (decades) ago... apart of a few pickups and maybe a caddie, their lineup is total crap. Has been this way for years.

Has anyone checked out the H2 Hummer yet? I seeing them all over Houston, I it frightens me that some soccer moms want it as a "in thing" for city driving. uuuggghh. There so wide, they engulf the width of lane. Too scary too pass one. I've yet to see more than one person in the vehicle, no passengers. What the hell is GM thinking?
