I got the word today that Vern's is still in fact open and also was told the onion rings can't be beat. Tim where do you go to school? DHutch I would definately be game for an F-chat party in Wilmington. I used to belong to the Deerfield Valley Stumpjumpers (wilmington snomo club) and have spent some time in the area.

My brothers and I own a house in Wilmington, VT. It's not too far from Bennington. Nice to just go up there and kick back. Had a snowmobile, but sold it a couple of years ago. What does everyone think about a F.C. party up there sometime?

That verns fish fry changes names every 5 years. It used to be pauls fish fry back when i was a kid. Old Bennington is where my aunt and uncle have there weekend house, its the old bennington school house. You usually pass by it coming in, at least if you come in by way of rt 9 (make the right at the stewarts shop, not the left).
RM- if you snowmobile up there odds are you have snowmobiled through my grandparents' back yard. A trail runs right thorugh there leading to the prospect ski area parking lot. Every year the snowmobiling org. asks permission to use their property.

I'll try again William. Vern's has been for sale for quite a while so they may be shut down now. Next time you are down there try a place downtown called Carmody's.

Thank you all. Just got back-Rrm, didn't see an email, can you resend to [email protected]. Looked at a place in "Old Bennington" near the Monument, colonial w/fairly recent addition, some land, some view, pool, etc. (4 car garages, too). Will keep you updated. Stopped by Hemmings, too.Wanted to eat at Vern's Fish Fry, but it never seemed to be open.

Hey you guys are talking about my neck of the woods. Tim I spend a lot of time snowmobiling in Woodford in the winter it is beautiful up there. Bennington is about 45 min. to an hour from Stratton, Bromley and maybe a little less to Mt. Snow.

I have family in Bennington, north bennington, and in woodford city (not the dump at the bottom of prospect mountain, thats woodford hollow, this place is on top next to the old prospect ski area). There are alot of vacation houses in the surrounding area. Manchester is not far away and offers great shopping. If you like fishing, especially fly fishing the deerkill is but one of the many good trout streams around. In the winter you can drive stratton or mount snow that are 45 mins to an hour away. Where is this house near? Im pretty familiar with the area. One place one of my realitives live that you have to drive by is the old bennington school house on route 9 (?) as you drive into the town, before you hit that big white church and make the right, near the hospital. They just had it redone with an addition which was a pain in the ass to get because of the building being historic or somehting. You should also look at houses in surrounding towns if you want to be in the open. there are also alot of vacation houses. Hutch has a house in wilmington, im sure he can help. My mom grew up in bennington with her 5 brothers and sisters btw.

Cool, college friends parents had a vacation home up there on one of the ski mountains. We would make a road trip twice a year all through school. Imagine 6 people in a 1989 Toyota Tercel with a keg of beer in the trunk. Oh those were the days. Drink, ski, drink, and then sled down the mountain at midnight with no lights and coming dangerously close to snow cats and telephone poles.

Thinking about a house right in the village. Anybody live there, vacation there, grow up there, that can give me the inside poop? Many thanks.
