I forgot to mention one slight problem. The air conditioning on the 355 spyder stopped working. In the temperate climate of Puget Sound, that really isn't an issue. In the 107 degree temperature that we experienced in California, it was close to heatstroke. The driver of the 355 probably drank 8 gallons of water that afternoon.

I just got back from Monterey and put about 1100 miles on mine. What a great trip. Average speed doesn't matter as long as you are enjoying the drive. The highway 1 part of the trip from San Luis Obispo to Monterey is not fast but one that I definitley would not have wanted to be in a Toyota on. If the car is solid and everything has been checked out, go for it, that is really what these cars are for.

I just got back from a trip down to Monterey. Round trip was a little over 2000 miles. I drove my 308 and we had a 355, a 512TR and a 456. All cars performed flawlessly. All these cars are driven regularly and well maintained. The one incident was a blown out rear tire on the TR. The hole was too big for fix a flat and so AAA flat bedded it to the tire place. (Big shout out for Les Schwab Tires, their customer service is unparalleled.)

I prepare for all road trips no matter what vehicle I'm driving. Proper preventive maintenance and emergency equipment are mandatory. Also a radar detector :-)

As far as time in the car goes, I like to take regular breaks. Then it seems like you can drive forever. We did a 16 hour day on our first day, due to the tire issue. Of course not all that time was driving. Our last day on the way home was a 14 hour day. Man was it great !!!

I have driven my 348 from Atlanta to the USGP twice with no problems. I can a few cans of fix-a-flat and a cell phone just in case.

David:

I've done that on more than one occassion. They travel well. I do check the tires, because without a spare, a flat can be big trouble in the Boonies, especially where the cell service is bad.

My F355 has been reliable enough to contemplate 2,000 mile "driving vacations". Like Lawrence, I drive to the drack (100-200 miles), run the snot out of the car (1.5 tanks of gas a day in just over 100 miles), and drive home. Never lost a beat.

I drive my Porsche to track events, run the hell out of it, then drive it home. While the trips are less than 350 miles each way, there is no problem. I used to do this with my 328 when I tracked it years ago. Both cars are rugged, in my opinion.

Now that my 328 has been serviced and has ceased slobbering oil onto the header (smelled great), my wife and I shall be using it for weekend jaunts.

At an average speed of around 42 MPH why not take a Toyota rental. I routinely do 500 miles in less than 9 hours. If my Ferrari could not do a 500 mile trip dependably I wouldn't have it. I would hate to have a $60-$100K car and have to ask this question.

Do any upcoming serivce, make sure the car's working well, take numbers of 'bail places' nearby (good ferrari service garages)

And just go for it!

Best!
Ben.
