no doubt about it: the 512tr is a better car, and at those price points, it will be a better financial choice as well. but then again i am biased...... |

Ming, I only have 3rd party insurance for the 512TR for a little less than $12K (no NCB, my NCB got tied up in another car involved in an accident-not my fault btw). It could have been lower (under $10K), but the insurer jacked up the loading because my different brokers were calling them up. I have 4 different brokers for our 4 cars! It's a long story. Oh well... I wouldn't bother asking about comprehensive for Ferraris older than 97. According to the 512TR insurance broker, there is very little chance you can get comprehensive insurance for pre-97 Ferraris. Even if you can, it's probably going to cost over $100K. Not worth it IMO. Unless, you have a lot of cars already insured with 1 insurer, then they may cut you the slack. FYI, the owner the we bought the TR from pays about $7K for comprehensive on the TR (60% NCB)! But then again, all of his cars (including his company's) are insured by the 1 co. |

Peter thats a good point from Ming. Have a good shop around for the insurance. I'm paying HK$52k for fully comp for my 355 Spider. But I have a friend with a 550 (V12) and he's paying over HK$100k (HK$7.8 = US$1 for US readers)

Hi Peter, Great to see your second F-car coming soon. Are you having 3rd party insurnace only or a Comprehensive one? How much you are paying cause the latter cost might be sky high if I made up my mind soon. Cheers, Ming |

Steve, thanks for the clarification. Yes, 355 started in 1994 for Euro models. Frank - HK$548K is about US$70K, so quite cheap. The late TR series has been my favorite shape. It's just out of this world. So, I think we made the right decision. Many, many 355s in HK. |

Frank -- HK$ (not US$) Kenny -- that's true in the US, but maybe not other countries where the date of manufacture (or registration) is used rather than "US model year" (e.g., there are 1980 carbed 308s and 1982 308QVs running around Europe) |

Steve, about the 94 355 at carcity, I met the owner once during a morning drive. Nice guy and a big Ferrari fan. Has a 550, 512BB, 512M, Mondial T cabrio, and a Diablo too, I think. He takes good care of his cars, so the 355 should be fine. He actually traded the 355 in for the new SL55. The price of the 355 has been coming down quite a lot this year. Carcity used to have a 95 355 for less than $548K. So, $548K for the 94 355 is about right. There will be more and more 355s coming to the market in the coming months, as more owners trade up to 360. FYI, a sales at IMS told me that they have sold over 100 355s during its production years! |

Oh, I see..Thanks, Bruce, for pointing that out. Guess I should have read the history of the car more closely. Can't help it, my eyes can't stay focused on the text when photos of this beauty are next to it. Actually, I have already made 1/2 the purchase decision (the other 1/2 belongs to my bro) and went for the 512TR. Gonna pick up the car tomorrow! YEAH!!!!

Martin, the 512TR is a UK model, while 355 is a Euro model, hence the difference in measurements. Car to be used for occassional drives. The TR had its belts changed 2 years ago, not sure about the 355. I agree yellow is nice, like Bruce's, but for me TR should be red. After all it's literally a red head. Steve, luckily I live out in the New Territories so plenty of highways and country roads to drive around. Understand that 355 has power steering and would be easier to drive around, but the 512TR, according to the owner and the mechanic that worked on it, is just as easy to handle as a 348, which I think is easier to handle than the Mondial we have.

Peter From your profile I see that your in Hong Kong. If you are going to be doing most of your driving and parking on HK island then I'd definitely go for the 355. Otherwise, Id just drive both and see which one you like best. I've got the 355 Spider, and its wonderful but still abit tight in HK car parks - and too much rain at the moment! btw have you checked out the 355 at carcity they have a 94 for $548 which seems "too" cheap to me. |

Why has the 355 Km not Miles? Both are so different cars. Are you going to be driving every day or just the occasional drive on the weekend? Service done on both cars (belts replaced)? They have the same milage. They have the same color. The TR is much more bang for the buck than a 355 although I must say a TR to me has to be yellow not red. Just my color blind eyes.

A 1994 512TR with 13000 miles priced at about US$87,000 or a 1996 F355 GTB with 23000 km priced at about US$88,000? Both in good condition and have service records. |
