My guess is it comes from the owners watching racing...a high strung engine won't idle very well to warm, so blipping the throttle keeps it going. I have to with my engine, the thing won't idle at all unless it's way warm. So, it gets blipped.

Actually asked myself why most of the Fcar (and other race car) owners tend to "play with the throttle" (=Giving the accelerator small kicks) in the pits after starting their engines at a track event. Just saw that with a vintage Testarossa. Is there any use because I would not give the engine such a treatment after just started up. O.K. it sounds cool but wouldnt it be wiser to just let the engine idle for a while and then increasing the revs smoothly and constantly when it has reached a certain temperature level?
