Doody: Poor choice of words on my part. I meant that there is a waiting list (2 years, I've been told). |

There is a nice car at Woodland Hills Ferrari and Steve Harris Imports in Utah has a couple of nice 550s. A 98 titanium...very nice and a newer tdf blue one. They are very fairly priced. I just bought a 2001 550 here in utah for about 177K...every option except the fiorano handling package. Only 1200 miles! It's awesome. I think i got a good price...the owner is a friend of a friend, etc. It has the tubi and is titanium with sabbia and blue interior. I'll post pics soon. thanks for everyone's advice on the board. ccr |

Yeah, it's pretty amazing that those cars do have so few miles. I put nearly four thousand miles on my first Maranello in little more than a month,; granted i drove it to Maine and back the first week i had it and did a fair amount of driving when i was up there, and then did the Forza mille ralley, including the drive there, from NY to New Hampshire; then shipped the car to LA to drive it on the PCH later that fall. Probably put about 11 thousand miles on it in less than a year, even though the car was stored and off the road for the better part of the winter. The barchetta now has about 5700 miles on it after a year, partly because i have been riding the motorcycle and partly because i don't want to pile up huge miles on it if i get rid of it, since that's the sickness of the market. I guess its a vicious circle, huh? Like red on alot of these cars. One of the reasons why i might go for an old ferrari is that the mileage thing seems to be much less of a factor. As it was, i took a big hit on the Maranello when i got rid of it,because of the mileage, but i still got out of it before the market plunged further. |

my understanding is that we don't know if the 575M is sold out since nobody knows how long the production run is going to last. if you know otherwise, i'd be interested in hearing. doody. |

I wonder how this will affect prices on the 575 M. I know they are sold out now, but will it last, or will potential buyers be afraid that resale will follow the 550 standard? |

it's a vicious cycle. the resale dropped so fast it's hard to jump aboard without knowing where the bottom is so it keeps dropping. at least the people who bought 550s did it for the love of the car and are not speculators. what's depressing is that so many have low miles. if you're going to take that kind of a hit, I'd be driving it...*alot*! |

The market on the 550 is a result of a couple of different factors. First the 360 is still a "hot" car on the market. It's been called "the best sports car ever made" and "the best handling car on the road" by major publications. The 550 has not had the same praise.... keep in mind that it is a different type of car. It's more of a GT car than an all out sports car, like the Testarossa. Secondly the economy. Guys aren't going to invest in cars that are on the way down in $. They want to invest their money in a car that will hold a more static price. |

the sl55 is a very hot car. saw a few recently and they sound great too. 450hp should be very impressive. the one i want to get my hands on is the model they use for pace car duty in f1, it has 550hp !!!! you can recognize it by the extra cooling ducts low on the sides of the front bumper. never seen one for sale, but have put feelers out to contacts at mac claren. |

Maranello prices seem to be continuing to slide downward; i think the numbers quoted, including what dealers are willing to pay even for later year, low mileage cars are realistic, putting you, a buyer at retail, in a position to buy a late model, low mileage car, probably without big service, in need of fresh tires, but having had recalls performed, in the 150k US dollar range, for a US car, if you shop it hard. Obviously, you want a car with a good history and no questions, and for that, you sometimes pay a premium. But at these prices, you are getting a huge amount of car. (I've owned two so far). Enjoy. |

Ok, here is the skinny on 550 prices.... I spoke with my friend who just sold his '98 550 titanium, 4600 miles, to a dealer for $135k. He was offered $120k - $125k from various wholesalers. He was also informed by a very reliable source that a 2000 550 (clean title) went at auction for $100k. Even if you do a complete engine rebuild, or gearbox rebuild, which would be the most expensive work to do on the car, you are into it for less than $130k. These are New York prices, but I would tend to believe that geographical price differentials are minimal.

I have a friend who just sold his 550 to a wholesaler. Im not sure of the price he got, but I can say he was grumbling about the state of the 550 prices. I will try to find out the details on the car, as well as the price he got for it. He picked up a SL55.....SMOKING!! |

I'm in the market for a '97-'2000 550 Maranello. I'm looking for a Titanium or a Blue car. There are many good cars out there with under 8,000 miles. The asking prices on these cars are all over the map, from as low as $140K to as high as $179K. I would greatly appreciate any help from board members as to the price range at which these cars are actually trading, as opposed to asking prices. Has anyone bought one in the last 60 days? I'm in CA but would consider a car from anywhere, so I want to break through any geographic pricing. Thanks much. |
