Not a jealousy story but was driving my 355 last week and a guy rolls up to me in an E class Mercedes at a stop sign and says, I got the same one at home. I'm like, Cool. He's like, they're a lot of fun, and I say, Yeah. He says see, "ice, ice.. ice" as he begins to show me the platinum on his wrists, and neck. He had a LOT!! Plus he was wearing a Gucci hat. He was one of those rapper types. Cool.

Anyone got any stories like this?

Although Wayne's link gives a good description, you should be able to find the Ferrari Bear at your neighborhood Ferrari dealer for about half that. Ron Tonkin had them, I got mine from F of Dallas. They bought a bunch, maybe still have some.

What is the big ice breaker for the 'great unwashed' (geez, that was *really* snobbish) is the sound and animation.

If you guys want to see Jealousy..goto Yahoo Autos and click on the user reviews for the different Ferrari models. Some of the stuff people write there is insane. Some people there think their Hyandai's can beat the hell out of any Ferrari. One guy in the Lamborghini section even commented on how he wrapped his new lambo around a telephone pole at 160mph..and it was just scratched..and because he wasnt happy with it, he went back to his Dodge Shadow. Something doesn't sound right here.

One of the best ice breakers/conversation starters for those who feel funny about approaching you is the Ferrari Bear. Since I have a totally worthless back seat, I keep one snugly belted in behind me.

The best comment I've got was on the West Side Highway in NYC. A guy rolled up next to me, rolled down his window and asked: "will you marry me?"

I think Hans is right. I used to be that way. When i would see a nice car I wanted so badly to talk to the owner, but i was not sure how to approach them or what THEIR reaction would be to a gawker so you say something dumb out of nervous energy.

And like he said they probably don't know anything about the car other than it gives them crazy pants. So I would say unless they kick your door in with their boot they are probably in awe of your car.

I get a lot of "do you want to trade" and "do you want to race" questions from people driving cars that I would obviously not want trade or race. I always take it as a joke\compliment.

<soapbox-mode-on> Sometimes I think Ferrari owners can be a little overly sensitive to off-the-cuff comments. I recently heard of a Ferrari owner being offended by the owner of an obvious POS offering: "Wanna trade straight accross?" I get these comments all the time. Lighten up! It's just a joke, although one that most of hear a little too often. They wouldn't be making the comment if they didn't admire the car.

Many questions/comments that I get could be taken in more than one way, depending upon your viewpoint. Often what appears to be a dumb question is just a person's attempt at making conversation over a car they know little about, and perhaps they are also a bit shy in approaching you. I smile and patiently talk to these people. Most (not all) come around and end up being quite nice and appreciative of the car. Very rarely have I gotten a comment that, in the end, was meant as derogatory. <soapbox-mode-off>

Jealousy is worse for the guy who is actually jealous. It limits a persons ability to achieve. For example, a person is jealous because you have a Ferrari and they don't. Sometimes they are so jealous that they can't hold back and say something rude you. There is an old saying that I go by and I think rings true today... "You will never become like anyone that you are indifferent toward". Basically, that jealous person will never one day fulfill his dream of owning Ferrari because he is hates people who own them. Why would you be like someone you hate?! If more people had this idea in mind, I think it would curb a lot of jealousy in every day life.

I love the 512TR wouldnt trade it for any Ferrari road car including the 288GTO, F40, F50, or Enzo.
Now if someone offered me a 1970 512M or a 1967 330P4 I might have to think about that trade :-)

By the way, Mike Tyson doesn't have a Mac because they refuse to sell him one. Even if a dealer has one, McLaren has to approve of who can own the car (like Ferrari and the F50/Enzo). I hope he never gets one, such a waste of an amazing car.

You always must realize there will be better cars and better men/women than you. But never compare yourself to others or you may become vain or bitter. I love my little 308 and I strive to own a Daytona one day. Whether or not I own one won't change me.

Think Leno lives in Bev Hills,CA but keeps all his 50+ cars at a hangar at Burbank Airport. I saw him in a red diablo, an old studabaker type car and on a vintage motorcyle.

Anyone of you guys ever drive one of these suckers?

I would figure the F1 would be one bad ass car to drive. I was hoping that M. Tyson would get one so I could see it getting suped up but I don't think he ever bought one, at least not in the Northeast.

jealousy is indeed a scourge of humanity. jealousy which results in vandalism to our cars is particularly aggravating. its always strange to me that people cannot see that if they simply applied themselves (and some of that energy they are expending on hatred) towards a goal, that they might be able to attain the same things as the person they are jealous of. but i guess that attitude also requires a certain level of intelligence, and that is actually the root of the jealous person's problem: insufficient iq. and since in my opinion, 95% of the people around us are morons, we will not escape jealousy any time soon.
i have found that for all of the momentary satisfaction a quick rebuke of one of these cretins provides, it is usually best to ignore them and leave the area as soon as possible.

Actually many in those professionals are "Middle Class". And a lot of them would probably finance the purchase of a Ferrari or similar car to fulfil their dreams. (Don't want to start a finance vs cash thread please).

I find I get a lot of people who just want to admire the car and only few who try something stupid like cut you off or race you in a Caprice. Sometime a guy would say "for me a car is only a vehicle to get from A to B". Yeah right. Usually comes from an aquaintance who is probably killing himself out of jealousy. My reply would be "Aren't you lucky then that you can't own a Ferrari !!!"

William, a beautiful car is like a beautiful woman, if you've got one, everyone wants her and are jealous they probably can't have her (Not being a chauvinist Nika - its meant as a compliment).

I guess you just don't have much imagination....

Arlie, I didnt think anything about the guy until he opened his mouth & showed that he was just an envious asss. Nothing wrong with being middle class but when he gets all pissy cus somebody has something nice then his attitude & jealousy of "Doctors & Lawyers" becomes annoying. He was also implying that since I was obviously a Dr or a Lawyer I therefor and not capable of driving well.
Wrong on both counts, I am neither a Dr or Lawyer & I can drive the wheels off just about anything :-)

So I am sitting at a red light the other night in my stunning silver/red 348, roof panel off, the car idling melodiously. . .smiling from ear to ear.

A big black Lincoln pulls up alongside, the driver rolls down his window and says "Hey, can I ask you a question about that car?"

"Of course you can." I respond, thinking he is going to ask something about how fast it goes or how it handles.

"Is that car comfortable to sit in?" He continues. . . "You don't look comfortable."

What I should have said is "It ain't no rolling living room, you ass." but I responded "it sure is." and I drove off.

I'm glad to hear that you guys have experienced the same stupidity. Jealousy is a strange animal.

Have fun. . .I sure am!

So I was down at DMV with the 512TR race car on a flatbed. Its just a shell now with a cage, but with a 90% 512TR body on it. There were some people gawking at it, most people enjoyed it then this middle class twerp shows up. I was eating a pizza outside standing by the back of the flatbed while waiting, there were A LOT of people that day. So the guys is looking at it, I tell him its a race car & pointed out the cage. The guy just had a crappy attitude, starts shaking his head & says,"I suppose if you are a Dr or Lawyer you need the cage" I told him if you are doing 200mph you also need the cage. What a putz.
