I saw a silver 350 for the first time yesterday at a local auto dealership client of mine. It looks to me like a cross between an Audi TT roadster in the front and a Porsche 911 in the back. Are the Japanese stealing others ideas again?? By the way, I'm not knocking Nissan either as I own a Gasfinder along with my 308! I have to admit, the car (in silver) looked great. I especially liked the door handles in that satin high-tech finish - they look like something out of the future.

I must agree with horsefly on how reliable American trucks are. Personally I don't like American cars like a Lumina or a Buick..or a Skylark..but I do like the looks of the F150-250-350 series. If some of these trucks are still around after 20 years..it says a lot for their reliability.
As far as safety goes..Ford Trucks are not very safe

Excellent point Horsefly. Toyota does NOT make a tow truck (not in the US anyway). And Honda doesn't build tanks. Therefore, you MUST be correct, all Japanese cars are "wimpy" vehicles. (???????)

Come on you guys. Have you ever seen Horsefly post anything that wasn't intended to get a reaction? You guys should be used to his brand of humor by now. He adds a little "spice" to the board every now and then. (Just glad there's not more than one of him!) So, come on, leave poor little ol' Horsefly and his Ford tow truck alone now, ya' here?

I will never understand you Arlie. How can you not expect to get a negative reaction when making posts like that here? Just respect people's opinions and move on. I personally can't stand driving trucks, but I am not going to bash them left and right every chance I get.

Can't help but think about how many times around the world that people have be SO HAPPY to see old AMERICAN IRON come rolling over the horizon to save the lives of innocent people from whatever evil person might be attempting to enslave them.
Does anybody rememember seeing on the network news about how Japanese tanks and military trucks helped free the people of Kuwait during the gulf war? NO, WAIT A MINUTE, the Japanese vehicles didn't do ANYTHING to help win that war, or any other conflict around the world during the past 57 years. And for the most part, neither has any other country except the British and Australians. It's always the AMERICANs and their AMERICAN IRON that get the job done when the chips are down, not whimpy foreign made vehicles.
For style and exotic looks, get a Ferrari. For style and reliability, get a Corvette. For INCREDIBLE mileage and long life, get any old American truck. I'll ask the same question that I did once before and nobody answered:

What kind of tow trucks do car dealerships and service centers use when they tow in your beloved Ferrari or Nissan or Camaro for servicing?
Chances are, it's a big American truck! Those guys know where the realiability is. Of course, some wise guy is going to mention big Volvo trucks, but for every one of them, you can see 100 big American trucks. And no, I don't own a Ford F-150 but I know people who do. And their old Fords have lasted longer than any Nissan did.

Horsefly is just proud of his Ford F-150. We've had this conversation with him before. This guy really believes American iron is still the best. He also believes a Chevy Lumina will hold its value better than a Camry. Forget him, he's good for the economy.

Personally, I've owned every model of Z ever made with the exception of the 260Z. I've owned a '72 240Z, '77 280Z, '79 280ZX, '85 300ZX and a '90 300ZX.

As mentioned earlier, the 240 was my favorite. Can't wait to see a 350!

I've been driving my Z for last 5 days, 500 miles and it's been great so far... It drives like a moderate priced BMW Z8 :-) hehe.
I am taking my Z to Thunderhill next Tuesday :-)
I think this car is worth more than it costs :-)

Thanks for your kind words. I had to jump in on this one. I've driven the various versions and love the Z, especially the handling and the torquey engine. And then there are all the little nifty gadgets John was part of, like the shift light, the tire pressure gauge, the different driver seat, ..etc.
Of course, it ain't a Ferrari but for the money, it's a rewarding car. Hope you get yours soon.

Well said. You must be very proud of your son. He has delivered a world class performer that will no doubt be a hit. Hope I can pick up a black one like Tako's without getting gouged too bad by my local dealer.
Congrats!

Horsefly,
I have to take personal offense to your unfounded anti-japanese bias. My son John has been diligently working on the Z project for two years as a product planner. We'll owe him the Track version that he concieved and so strongly pushed for. There is no truth in your assumption that the Z will go to the junkyard. On the contrary, if I were to drive my 360 the way I'm planning to drive my 350Z, it is the 360 that will go to the junkyard first. I can't begin to think what would have happened to a 348 had I owned and driven it the way I drove my 300ZX TT back in 1991. and if you're implying a loss of value, you're also wrong. A 91 ZX has lost about half its original value by now, so has a 91 348.

Is the winning bidder going to drive that Nissan straight to the scrap metal yard, or have it towed there? Or just let it depreciated to worthless scrap value like other disposable Japanese cars?

Glad to see that you still have the Z-8. Absolutely stunning in black! I see a few silver ones near my office in SF, but your car takes the cake. Where did you pick up the new Z car if I may ask? You on a long wait list? If they have more cars, I might take a ride over to see whats available.
Take care of that stable Tako. Car washing day must be a joy!
Cheers!

The bidders in this auction are mostly Nissan dealers. "jsage2002" is the son of Morrie Sage, owner of Universal City Nissan, Glendale Nissan, and Glendale Infiniti in So Cal. Morrie also happens to be the owner of the last 300ZX built in 1996. Trust me, just like the last ZX, this car will never see the street no matter who wins the auction.

This is a great car at a greater value.. $26800 for a car with 0-60 at 5.4 sec..I think Nissan will dominate the mid range sports car market with this car..

It's faster and less expensive then the Porsche Boxster, the new Z4, Honda's S2000..
Nissan knows what they are doing....

I wouldn't be afraid of buying the first Z.... now if it was a Ford, Chrysler or Chevrolet, no way. Probably wouldn't buy the first model year Ferrari either.

The new Z is very hot right now. It'll be intersting to see if it continues high sales 2 yrs from now or goes the way of the PT Cruiser, VW Bug, etc and loses steam. I think it will do well.

I had a 72 240Z, absolutely one of my favorite cars ever.

Ken,
Not too many recalls with Nissan (the only ones were for models manufactured in the US) My son's been in charge of the Z's product planning for two years and I can vouch for the car having been meticulously prepared. Besides, the VQ motor is a well proven torquey powerplant. The auction is done with Nissan for a good cause, nothing wrong with that.
