I am sure FOH is a reputable shop. I just do not understand the huge difference in prices I was quoted ( UP FRONT ) ( ON THE PHONE ) for a major service. I was interested in purchasing a car in LA. The authorized factory dealer there NOT F of B.H. or F of Orange County. The "other" dealer in LA quoted me from 5 -6,500. That is a difference from 7.5 -10. Ciao Ralph |

Ferrari of Houston quoted me about $8,500 for a 15,000 mile service with belts and water pump rebuild for my 512TR. They told me that this quote was based on the amount they recently charged a 512TR customer for a similar service. I did not get the feeling that there was any possibility that it would be less than this amount. I would ask them to fax you a copy of what is included in a routine service (assuming no additional problems are discovered, such as brake or clutch issues) with the labor and parts stated separately. They seemed very responsive to my inquiries, so I would expect them to be glad to provide you with this information. Being a reputable shop, surprises or misunderstandings amounting to $1,000s of dollars are not in their interest or yours. |

It's a clear film protector applied to high wear areas. It's under several names (3M, Stongard, armorfend, etc) but all are pretty much the same stuff. Stongard is computer cut and does not need to have pie-section relief cutouts to go around curves and corners. Try www.stongard.com |

For my next car, I will have the dealer send the car out for Stonegard before delivery. Learned my lesson on my black 360. I had the chipped up bumper repainted last winter before the Stonegard application. The whole car seems easier to clean after that. |

In a word "YES". Most cars (and all trucks) hide this impact area from the driver by putting a big visible bumper made out fo (reletively) soft material (urethane) and painted with a polemerized paint (also soft). Then they curve this area back towards the contact patches of the front tires--this makes it hard to see, and makes the stones bounce off at a more glancing angle. The lower 18 inches of the front of cars takes a big beating from stones, Unfortunately, the lowe 18" is all a Ferrari has at the front, so there is nothing to hide the damage under. My Vette took it on the chin (also) so to speak! I had the front valance redone at 8K on my F355 |

I've heard that 360's are prone to early paint problems too. I guess that thin layer of paint is a method used to save weight on the cars... |

I would have said without doubt its quite expected to have a painted front bumper (and even hood in many cases) with such mileage. What are F of Houston anticipating doing, rebuilding the whole frikkin car? This is the stuff that gives F cars that cost of ownership stigma. Sorry but quotes like that are crap and the fact that its so 'expected' because its an F car made of unobtanium components and assembly skills stinks too. |

I think I am doing that every 3000 Miles or roughly every 6 months. I usually hit some darn thing in the road. |

Thanks for the advice. I see that it is common to repaint a front bumper of a ten year old Ferrari with 18,000 miles. Ciao... Ralph |

Sounds normal. I just painted my TR 8 months ago and damn if the front bumper is not shot already. And its stronger paint than the original and the rocks still kill it. Every time I go over 100, I get one or two good chips in the front bumper. Needless to say I have a lot of chips. |

Yeah, that.....and the paint is, um, unusually thin on F-cars. I guess the $$$ it takes to buy one goes to emgine & drivetrain & styling, and not to paint! Imagine that... |

Not really. The front end of most Ferraris act like a shovel going down the road and scoops up everything it goes over. |

Greetings. Is it unusual or suspicious to repaint the front bumper with 18,000 miles on a ten year old 512TR? & Thanks for the advice on the major service for Testarossa. How about Ferrari of Houston - Major service quote from 7.5 - 10 - "it could be less." Ciao... Ralph |
