Antony, Just stumbled across a few pics on E-bay of a 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB Fiberglass VIN # 19427 which show the old style exhaust cover. Here's the link to the auction, in case you hadn't seen it already: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1854989019 And here are the 3 pics:

While I had the digital camera out. I snaped a few of the 308 it's original state, (minus of course the custom exhaust). BTW- I personally love it- sounds MEANER than a tubi at 1/5 the price!

As promised, I climbed up into my attic and pulled down my old exhaust heat shield for my '85 QV; here's a few pics. |

Ive never seen that mesh below the valance before. Ive seen that style of valance and you always saw the muffler hanging down. That looks nice with the mesh below it. Good luck finding one of those though. |

Antony, I have a US version 1976 308 GTB (Fiberglass) which does not have an exhaust cover. The rear valance has a center portion which has a single long slot. The same part is pictured in the 1976 Ferrari Parts Manual AUS version section. It's held in position with either rivets or screws. I currently have the center section off my car as the ANSA muffler tailpipes sit a bit high and would interfere. The pipes on the OEM muffler (in my garage) clear the valance. You can't see this in the picture of my car in my profile, but below is a picture of an early 308 GTB with my rear valance. As you can see, this valance differs a bit from the EURO valance as it does not have the single cutaway on the driver's side for the early Euro style muffler. I hope this helps with your restoration. I'll make a copy of the page from my parts manual for your reference in the next few days, Barry

Al & Robert, you are correct - the euro version didn't have the exhaust cover, these were reserved for the US model. The Australian version is a hybrid of US and UK with more of a US emphasis but the muffler that the Aust only version has is plain UGLY and weighs a ton. My 308 seems to have a few screw / rivet holes in the exhaust area which indicates that there was a cover. The mechanic who looks after it remembers that there was a cover but it had mesh looking vents. I haven't seen any other covers like this on Aust cars locally or within the Ferrari Club here. There was a mesh version advertised on eBay a while back but I didn't give it much thought at the time. I'm in the final throes of restoring the car and this is the last piece of the puzzle. Jeff, is your cover a mesh type ? If it is a photo would be very much appreciated. Please take your time as I'm going to be away for the next 3 weeks (coming over to the US and Canada).

My euro 82 308gtbi did not come with an exhaust cover. I do not think any of the euro models used them, I believe that was reserved for U.S models |

My 1985 Euro came to me with the exhaust cover. I always hated it. I removed it and returned the car to it's original splendid rear valance only. I kept the cover. It is in perfect condiditon. I have it stored in my attic. If no one else will send you a photo, I can drag it down and snap one for you. Why do you need a pic of one anyway?

I don't think the Euro's had any exhaust covers, mine doesn't. I'm fairly sure thats one of the things that differentiates them from the US versions. All the exhaust covers I've seen on 308s are the louvre type. |

Has anyone got some pics of a 308 exhaust cover ? It needs to be one which has the mesh looking vents (maybe a Euro version)- not the pressed louvres version. |
