Servuzio down in Jupiter FL has an F40 that he is rebuilding. It was in a garage that caught fire. They r turning it into a track car.

Sort of what I am doing with my 512TR wreck

That is amazing. I want a frame jig like that for my shop. Makes me wonder though if this happened in the US, what would that total cost of repairs be? If this was a insurance claim, would it be considered a total loss. On another note, I heard that FOH has a F50 that has over $100,000.00 in damage.

It is rather common in older vintage Ferraris that they are rebuilt after crashes. Some of the raced GTOs are complete rebuilts, some 250SWB have been completely rebuilt, sometimes even with different bodies on them. Heck Ferrari did it himself.

Nothing wrong with that, as long as it is a desirable car. If it would be a 308 sorry that would not make sense and therefore I rather have a straight car. Too many possibilities that somebody cut a corner.

BTW this guy is really nice. I exchanged e-mails with him.

Ansgar, still waiting for you to send me an e-mail. Click on my user name! Ich mchte wissen wo Du her bist!

Manu,

Hi my view is similar to yours, I am absolutely fanatical about things being RIGHT and wouldn't normally even think for a second about buying a car that had had extensive damage. I am not even happy about minor work cos there doesn't seem to be anybody I've ever come across who can put stuff right to MY satisfaction...i.e. I want it like NEW again, not really possible! having said that, and I'd need to see the car, but I think I'd buy that particular F40 at the right price. It looks amazing in detail the guy has taken.

However, there would always be that nagging doubt, not that I'd plan to but if I 'HAD' to sell ever I'd get problems!!!!

I have worked on several different restorations over the years, but don't know that I would have the stamina or willpower to do this one...
What an awesome job!

Guys - I think you misuderstood me..... My point is this: Typcally I stay away from cars that have had even a minor shunt - this F40 was a horrible mess - as far as I am concerned a total write off - suppose the guy was prepared to sell it - do you think the work he's done makes up for the shunt he's had.......... with such a well documented, thorough and frankly breathtaking restoration - I would definitely buy the car (if I had the means), and would consider it as if it had never been crash damaged.

I've had the opportunity to pore over a few F40s in the metal and the shut lines on this guy's rebuilt F40 look even better and tighter than the ones undamaged straight from the factory. What a brilliant job! (loved the picture of his kid in the childseat in the 355 GTS!!!!)

If I were the owner, I wouldn't sell that car either. Fantastic work!

The car is ready for driving. It will be at the Ferrari-Racingdays at the Nürburgring in september.

I don't think that the owner wants to sale this car.

Absolutely awesome work... beyond belief really....

Who would buy this car if they had the means (and if so would you be prepared to pay a non-discounted market rate), despite the fact that it had had such a heavy shunt.

A few weeks/months ago someone posted a website where an f40 was resurrected from mostly scrap. Does anyone have that website address available? I can't seem to find it in the search.
