The dealer has advised me nothing wrong with the clutch. They claim the E-throttle is very sensitive and I need to be acutely aware of the pressure I am applying to it. Essentially they are telling me I should learn to drive the car. Oh well....

Nick,
if yours is a 2000 model, they had a major problem with the clutch bearing and sleeves. You better get it down to the dealer until it is under warranty. it is a very big and expensive job.

They arent really known for their low end torque, but that should happen. Where exactly are the rpms? If you are shifting from 1 to 2 at 2,000rpms thats gonna happen, at like 4 it shouldnt.

The only way to avoid the chugging is to either keep the rpm's high and shift with a slight slipping of the clutch or go from 1st to 3rd and oddly the transition is smooth. My Spider is a manual 6 speed.

I also own a six speed 996 Porsche and have no problem shifting from first to second. Therefore I assume it is not driver incompetence.

Thoughts anyone?
