perfect ferrari stable:
-love my 512tr (red/black), not going to sell it.
-am in the process of getting a 456m gta (dark blue/cartier red).
-want to get a 550 or 575 cabrio in light blue over tan.
-eventual collection must include a 275 gtb shortnose, doesn't even have to be a 4 cam, in red over black, although i will accept any color (even the dark green over black version i saw in london last year, which sergio leone bought for clint eastwood after making, literally and figuratively, 'a fistful of dollars'......)

My ideal Ferrari Stable would be:

1) 1985 288 GTO-red (the car that started my obsession)
2) 1987 328 GTS-chiarro blue
3) 1965 330 GT 2+2-silver (I wan't a 4-headlight interem with the 5 speed trans.)
4) 1964 250 LM-any color (I think this has to be the most beautiful car)
5) 1969 206GT-Yellow (wonderful sound and goKart feel)
6) 1995 333SP-any color (the most significant Sport racer of my lifetime that Ferrari made)
7) 1947 125S-red (I know there isn't any remaining, but I am dreaming anyway)

Although any of the high buck stuff would be high on my 'ultimate' list (e.g. 250GTO, Cal Spyder), to be realistic:

Daytona
Maranello (early ones sliding nearer to my $ bracket)
355GTS 6 speed Drk Blue

and.....
Just about any 4 seat 12 cyl (yes, I know..... But I'd like a Ferrari freeway cruiser.)

I can't afford it (yet) :-)
A red 512TR is the one I dream about.
'Til then I'll settle for my bang for the buck mobile.
I'm a drag racer at heart and you may ask what
would I would want with a Ferrari 512,
You might as well ask me why people fall in love.

Interesting. I'm nowhere near a big buck guy, but if I were and I wanted to make an impact in the collector world, the Dinos seem to be the only niche that hasn't been exploited. As you say, it would be tough to do.

I really enjoy your contributions. Every time a question about older Ferraris comes up I visualise you going into your library and diving into a stack of books looking for the answer.

Love those old Ferraris!

Bill, there's nobody like that, at least not with the comp cars. The problem is that the racing models are either scarce or no longer existant due to crashes and being torn down/rebuilt by the factory into completely different cars. There is some debate but, according to Cavallino, the numbers look like this:

None Remaining:
1958 206 Sport
1958 296 Sport
1962 248 SP
1962 286 SP

One Remaining:
1959 196 Sport
1962 196 SP

Two Remaining:
1959-60 246 Sport
1962 268 SP

Three Remaining:
1961-62 246 SP
1965-66 196/206 P

Fifteen Remaining:
1965-67 206 S/SP

Even though the remaining cars are all valued under $2 million, convincing one of only 2 or 3 owners of a particular model to sell is nearly impossible. Therefore, it's entirely impossible to build an complete collection of these cars. Too bad!

It makes me wonder if there isn't somebody out there with a collection of street Dinos. Not a lot of different models to collect, but how about a collection of 246's--one in each color available? That could be done.

355 Spider : Giallo on nero
575 MM : Rosso Corsa on nero
F40 : Rosso

Old (my ideal collection):
-365 GTB/4 Daytona
-Dino 246 GTS
-250 GT/L Lusso

New:
-288 GTO
-F40
-F50
-Enzo

If money were no object I think it would be interesting to compile a collection of Dinos from the early racers to the street cars of the Seventies. Maybe L. Wayne knows of someone who has done this, but I haven't seen evidence of it.

Top Two:

Newer: F40

Older: 250 SWB

(Of note: The 550 would be my choice as an all-around driver, street Ferrari's don't get much prettier than a Lusso, and the 360'd be my pick of the "conventional" 6/8 cyls.)

Ok, so I like the oldies. Here is my dream collection, keeping it somewhat realistic (no multi-million dollar fasntasies):

1962-64 250 GT/L "Berlinetta Lusso" (rosso rubino)
1966-68 275 GTB/4 (nero)
1966-68 330 GTS (rosso chiaro)
1968-73 365 GTB/4 "Daytona" (grigio argento)

I drove my 360 to the office this am, and no body was in the parking lot, So I had some coffee and just looked at her. And yes she is a little red monster as someone put it, I do think it is a beautifully designed car yet I am not sure it is my favorit.

I love the syling of the 355, but it does not grab me, and yet everytime I see a 348 it just catches me eye.

The 348 has to be my favorit 8, and yet it will come up Frank " Dino"
although I am still not sure why 8's are referred to as Dino, but please do not tell me :-)

Then there is the 512TR 91-94. This could be the ultimate ferrari for me, they are just so sexy. I would love to own one some day, but I would not want to give up the 360.

The perfect ferrari stable for me at this point in my live could be as follows
348-Silver
360-Red
512TR-Yellow
and then the almighty F-40-who cares about the color on this one.

Rob
