The first two 360 spyders I saw were at WWOC in NY. and they had Dark Green/saddle interior and a metalic tan/saddle brown interior..
The dark green was little weird for that car, but the other was out of this world.....

Frankie, I believe the color on the 365 GTC is Verde Medio Nijinsky, named after a famous race horse.

As for the 330 GT 2+2, unless it was a special order color or just repainted to a non-orignal color, the only two shades of green offered from the factory on that model were plain Verde and Verde Pino (Pine Green). I'm familiar with both and this car is not exactly either color. It looks somewhat like Verde Pino but it's too bright.

L. Wayne (i feel like i am saying "El Wayne," as in El Greco): thanks for exploding that myth. Now i guess you'll tell me that the little queer guy that leaves a quarter under my pillow when a tooth falls out doesn't really exist. But, since you said you are doing a book with Veloce Press, it might be fun to take on some of the mythology: was Dino really Elvis' son? Only Frank knows the answer... (Seriously, that would make for an interesting aspect to any F book, cause lot's of this stuff gets passed around, like...well, i was going to mention somebody's wife, but that's already been done). Regards.

Oh, BTW, I agree with you, WM, I usually prefer just about any color over bright red. But there are exceptions.....

WM,

There have been many stories behind the yellow/green color scheme of the 375 MM you're referring to (0460AM). One story is that Enzo didn't want one of his racing cars being ordered for the mundane use as transportation on the streets of California and was more upset at the car being ordered by a woman (Willamenta "Willie" Day). According to the story, he kept upping the price to scare her off, but she just kept on agreeing. He then ordered Pininfarina to paint the car bright yellow and upholster it in green leather, a move that still failed to deter her. Eventually he gave in and sold her the car.

As interesting as they sound, both the Enzo story and the husband story have turned out to be myths. In reality the car was originally ordered by the Belgian royal family (either ex-King Leopold III or then present King Baudouin) in those colors as yellow was the national color for Belgian race cars. And if you think THAT green interior is odd, you should see the bright apple-green interior on Leopold's 375+ cab (0488AM)!

Correct me if wrong, but the most famous "weird" colored ferrari was Mrs. Day's (sp?), who was so pissed that her husband kept spending money on these cars that she ordered and got, was it a 375 MM spider? in yellow with green interior, and as i recall, kept the car forever. I like the "off colored" ones myself, cause i find red particularly tiresome on road cars. I like that prune metallic, and the odd light green metallic; also those really dark blues, especially on the early cabrios. Today's yellow is a bit brite, and the mellow yellow (like primrose on Jag's) was on the dinos.

Ben, I don't know if we're talking about the same car, but when I saw the light green metallic Mondial on display at CI, I knew it must be Keith's. I checked the display card in the windshield and, sure enough, it had Keith Martin as the owner. Now where is that issue of SCM?

Ben, the Mondial belongs to Keith Martin, creator of Sports Car Market. He did an article on its purchase with a photo. I'll see if I can find it.

OK this is a topic I like! I personally love seing odd color Ferraris. 2 weeks ago at CI I took these pics. I have some other odd color shots in my archives, I'll see what I can dig up, meanwhile anyone know the names of these 2 factory colors? There was also a factory mint green mondial, which I didn't manage to get a picture of.

-Ben

This color is best described as Home Depot Orange (notice the HI-yellow - not FLY yellow 355 in the backround.

Orange

This is a rose red.

Rose

I have not photoshop manipulated these in any way (I just used MS-photo editor to resize them).

I always thought Prugna Mettalic was a weird color. It's sort of purplish-brown. I've only ever seen it on the 308 and Mondial.

After reading about colours on another thread it got me thinking about different factory colours (bad or good) from Ferrari.

I remember seeing in Reno back in the mid 80's a medium brown 308 in a casino where you can win it at the slots. I didn't like it too much.

I've also seen in Vancouver some guy driving a gold TR and I was told that the guy ordered it that way from the factory! IMO it didn't suit the car.

Any other strange colour F-cars you've seen?
