Steve is correct. My Saab in the door says Manufactured 10/87 and it is a 1988 model as my vin correctly states. |

I believe the VIN defines "model year" not "year of manufacture" -- ergo, a 1995 model manufactured in April 1994. |

I have an old Spider that is "vin'd " as "S" ( 1995 ) but when you open the door the identy plate in the door reads mfg April 1994. So what is it a '94 or '95 ? |
