I guess if they pissed off the wrong Reigious group, they would have crashed a Chariot into the Colesseum.

Dr. Tommy, there have been a couple of theories put forth:

Theory #1:
If you count them, you will see that a clock face contains four X's, four V's, and 20 I's. In the early days of clockmaking, it was easier and less wasteful of material for a metal worker making the numerals to make four slugs for each clock face, each consisting of XVIIIII. Problem with this theory: the numbers on many old clocks were cast in one peice, not in individual letters.

Theory #2:
In their pre-J, pre-U script, the Roman spelling of Jupiter (the god of gods) was "IVPITER." The Romans, fearful of offending the god by placing the first two letters of his name on a clock face, substituted the four I's. The problem with this theory: why did they think it would have been so offensive? Maybe it was just better to be safe than sorry?

I have heard of that Roman numeral thing before. There is actually a legitmate reason for doing it. For the life of me I cannot remember why. Does anyone know what I am thinking of? No kidding.

That's funny I just figured the pricing/shipping schedule was his way of getting around ebay's increasing outrageous listing fees. Can't blame him for that.

Has anyone ever noticed that on most all clocks and watches that the Roman Numeral for 4 is placed as IIII instead of IV. Now from now on everyone will be looking at timepieces to see how many are actually correct with the correct numeral.

I think it's a local Hong Kong guy. His username is the name of a weekly computer mag here. Very pathetic, preying on the uninformed.

Why would one buy a fake brand watch and yet make fun of a fake Ferrari ? Fine automatic watches are works of art. Do like you did with your Ferrari, save until you can buy the real thing !

Recently in Bangkok and the same Ferrari watches and many other Ferrari designs are selling retail for about USD$7 - 10.00 . They are all gaudy, tastless and very un-Ferrari. These watches are bought by people who do not own a Ferrari ! This guy is probably making approx 400% profit with his crazy shipping cost. I actually wanted to buy some Ferrari shirts and T's, but the logo/ SF embroidery all looked a bit off! Again for the non Ferrari owners!

Rob and I actually bought a couple similar Ferrari watches for about $20-25 awhile back. You get what you pay for. These were pathetic. The emblems wear off and they give cheap a whole new definition. However, if anyone's interested, I've got a contact in LA who can get Gerard Perregaux Ferrari chrono replicas that look great with real Ferrari stamped leather bands. I picked up both the red and yellow face versions with black chonos and always get a lot of compliments on them. In fact, at the FCA/LA event I saw a guy who was driving an F50 when he was standing next to me and he was wearing the same watch. I took a good close look and couldn't tell the difference. Only downside is the chronos don't function, but I guess that's the trade-off to saving thousands.

~Ciao
Chris

Peter, I'll send you a penny! Just contact this guy and tell him you're going to pick the watch up instead of paying for S&H and see what he says.

I live in Hong Kong. No s/h for me. Don't know how to pay this guy though 'cause the local currency doesn't even go that low!

Of course, the watch is a penny, but the S&H is $40. Hmmm, I didn't realize postal rates for mail that will never arrive had increased that much.

Regards.

Mr. Doody -- Oh did he forget to mention that its "Rare"!! Better Bid Now!! I was high bidder on a "Rare" Ferrari Key Chain 3 weeks ago (Only $5.00 though)!! Payment was accepted immediately - Key chains are somewhere between US and Hong Kong on a "goat" I guess!! The "rare" part of the bid is that it will be "Rare" I'll even get them at all! So see its not that its false advertising or anything like that -- you must review the complete bid!! he he he
