When I took my TR for the pre-purchase inspection, my mechanic showed me a TR on the hoist that was having a similar problem. It was leaking oil from the point where the axle enters the housing. He first replaced the seal, hoping for the owner that it was not worse than that. Took it for a drive. Came back, and it was still leaking. Hence, he had to replace the whole thing (don't know which parts he meant), but he told me parts alone will run you over a $1000.00.
Sorry to hear about your problem, Billy.

They never had a recall but they discontinued using the old parts. There are new parts with different part numbers which my dealer said has been improved. Do not know how to check this problem only making you aware of what could (hopefully not) happen.

Thanks for the heads up - how do I check this -- where do I look?

Inspect your driving axle seals. Mine had a little leak and did not think anything about it. I took the car for a cruise and the next thing I knew all of my oil was spilled on the floor. Had car towed to dealer and upon taking it apart we found out the limited slip had blown up and put a hole through my transaxle casing. We did some research and found out that TRs not 512 TR are prone to this sort of thing. I have been waiting for parts for over a month and a half and it has been driving me absolutely nuts. I miss the car very much. Don't mean to scare anybody just sharing an experience. First major problem I've had on this car in three years
