Now that she's got Tubi + test pipes, what's next? chip upgrade? I was going to order from TPS in Florida but after reading that thread regarding the F40, I think I'm going to look else where.

The O2 senson coupling was on the pipes. He had made them to spec and I have sent him my CATs so he could copy the exact distance and bend and where the couplings are. We did not hook up the thermo coupling because that really does not matter any more. Nothing to thermo couple :-)

ON the Challenge exhaust, I do not thing this is a factory challenge muffler (or lack thereof). I believe they were custom made. He has two different ones, one is a straight pipe and one is the one shown with the bulge. We were all down in the KEys in April for the FOC Keys Rally and drove behind each other when a HP officer pulled next to us. He could not get us for speeding so after a few minutes he turned the lights on and pulled him over. The ticket was for "excessive noise". We tried to argue for loud music but the officer did not smile. So he had the one with the bulge put in.

As for emmissions. Believe it or not. He does not have testpipes but his CATS have been punched out. So basically also a test pipe. He never had problems in Florida getting emmissions when we were still testing. In 2000 the emmissions testing was abolished along the helmet law.

I guess I will go for a Tubi when my muffler dies on me. Till then I will enjoy just this sound.

Manu,

Out of interest, for a 348 how far can one go regarding exhaust 'openess' and still pass UK annual MOT test?

I really wouldn't want to get into having to do a refit operation once annually just to get the piece of paper.

Man I told you!! I knew you would love the sound of that baby once you opened her up a little. I bet you were as amazed as I was the first time you turn the key and it fired up! Pretty amazing how much faster the car rev's now as well, at least to me it seems where blipping the throttle before resulted in about 1000RPMs now with the same pressure results in about 2000RPMs. I'm glad you got everything on and shes purring beautifully my friend!

Martin
Any problem with O2 or thermo's?
Did you have to do anyother modifications?
Do you have emissions in your part of Florida and if so how does it fair?

Martin - I'm in agreement with your wife - A lot of people think challenge exhausts sound too "gravel-ly".... too raspy....

My idea of an "exhaust" on a Ferrari is a set of hollow stainless steel pipes from a header out into the friggin air...
Legislation is sucking the life out of the character of the cars we love - making modern sports cars sound like hoovers - political correctness gone too far - enough to compromise the nature of a product designed to be thrilling and visceral and taking it away.
It's irritating and pointless and I don't want one. ANYONE who chucks their Cats in the bin earns my respect.

Apologies for the somewhat impromptu rant.

Hey Martin glad to hear you love the test pipes so much. I have had mine for a while as you know and I think they sounded awesome with my stock muffler, but man with the new Tubi they just rock! The biggest way to tell the difference the pipes make is to stick your hand over the exhaust tips and feel how much more pressue there is. I agree with you 100% that the car rev's much quicker, especially when blipping the throttle on down shifts. I am sure you were smiling the whole way home with a sweeter tune coming from the exhaust like I was!!

P.S. I will be posting my Tubi install pics tonight for all those who are interested. I have tried a billion times to get a sound clip but all of them end up coming out sounding strange....I will post a good one when I get it.

Hi Hi Hi,
Manu I was thinking about that as well driving home yesterday. :-)

Actually here is the muffler of the Challenge car I have as a consignment. It is a reduced muffler, basically only a pipe with a little bulge in it.

My wife hated the sound of it though:-(

Added test pipes to my 82 GTSi last week: sounds nice, trunk much cooler. Nill performance gain (but at 7000 ft with an FI car there is no peformance - K&N and Krank Vent also did not seem to help much). Do love the sound with test pipes though!

boy did I smile when I heard these pipes whistle! Straight cut pipes from the engine to the muffler. Bypassing the CATS.

One of our fellow F-Chatters has made these picpes for me. This is my way of thinking him for new sound:

Interested? get them here:
