Mine is 49451 . Also if anyone has any info on the car. I have the carfax and know it was laid up after a wreck in 1990. It has a Warner Bros. Studio lot parking permit on the windshield.

I had a similar experience when looking for my TR last year. I went to see this beautiful red/tan TR (87251) with only 3100 mi. It was immaculate, but the owner would not come down in price, so I passed. The same afternoon I checked another red/tan TR which I believe was 87254 or 87255. I found that curious at the time but didn't give it much thought. Guess what, I purchased a TR right in the middle of those two, my black/tan TR (87252). Thinking about it, perhaps even the leather came from the same cows, too.

Knowing that these cars are shipped all over the world, it's like a needle in a haystack to find the car that was directly behind or in front of you. What are the chances? Thanks everyone for the stories!!

Well I finally found it - it was Peter and the orginal owner was Bill Badurski. In fact Bill has provided Peter with some old docs and pics of his car. Here is the thread

http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/3198.html

Maybe we should have contest for some of the best all time threads (excluding the fights)

yeah I was going to suggest something like that - I know you are busy. I will try to find the thread and post it here. I think it was Peter's car for some reason.

Tom, if you could find that thread, that would be cool. Remember what car?

Within a month after I update my database, I can have the member's list automatically generated when you hit the link with whatever fields we want. We should have a field for s/n along with your cars. You can then sort on that field automatically. Should be cool.

there was a thread a few months ago - maybe years where a guy on the chat owned a f -car previously owned by another guy on the chat about 20 years earlier - the funny part was they were discussing the car for a long time before they realized it was the same car.

I've owned a 1983 400i 5 speed for the past four years.

Two stories about 400i "sisters":

I've seen a for sale ads for the 400i just BEFORE my car and also for a 400i that was 2 production numbers AFTER my car. Both of them were in California. Now, my car is in CT, but I bought it in California!

In May of this year, I met a guy on the road from my town with a 400i and noted his serial number. Three days later, I saw another 400i with the number right after that at the Greenwich Concours

Greg,

Yes, I had a similar (almost) experience. At a tech session at Classic Coach in New Jersey this past May, I met Ed Eberhardt who owns a "sister car" to my 1976 308 GTB S/N 19399. His is S/N 19401, also red with tan interior. However, he wasn't there with his car that day. Perhaps our paths will cross in the future with both our cars present.

I owned two Dinos 4 cars apart (2900 and 2892). In fact, while working on one of them, I found a 100 lira coin under the seat. I suspect a factory worker had it slip out of his pocket while sitting in the car in 1972. They were both red, black interior, one European, the other U.S. I tried to get two license plates: "Book" and "Ends". No such luck.

Bob Campen and my 308's are 20 #'s apart, so 10 cars. Mine is a '78 and Bob's is a '79. So in addition to being only 10 cars apart, this also means that my car was one of the last 10 '78's and Bob's is one of the first 10 '79's.

I couldn't believe it. While I was at the FCA - Watkins Glen event this past weekend, I found a 1984 silver 308QV (Euro) with serial number 48343...mine is 48345! Knowing that Ferrari gave it's 308 series odd serial numbers, that car was the one directly in front of mine on the assembly line. I was pumped when I saw it!

Has anyone ever discovered a similar situation?
