Horsefly, don't forget to bring your old truck to tow it home with.

But Dave, as you know per the past threads here, you shouldn't waste time and money repairing and restoring those old beater 308s. They should be parted out for the betterment of others. I'll swing by the shop and make them a parts car offer,...say $2500? Yeah, that should be fine.

It's in the shop for repairs at BBC...
The Titanium 360 is back in the shop for tranny work as well....
I guess I have one of the few running Ferraris in town.

Arlie, speaking of Ferrari autos being very scarce in Arkansas....
I saw a 77 308gtb in the shop today...
It is from Hot Springs, and a little older than my 77 by the vin #.
It has been repainted, although not very well...
The engine bay on this car looked pretty grottie.
The car was running badly and belching flames... I looked at the muffler once it was on the lift, and it has at least 6 holes in it....
Know anyone from Hot Springs with a 77?

Horsefly is right. The Rebecca Schaefer incident changed everything. Companies like Polk and Experian have the data but won't sell it to you. Funny thing is that while Pam Dawber (Schaefer's co-star) was campaigning to end the use of auto registration data for direct marketing purposes her Dad's company--Dawber & Co.--was doing lots of direct mail business with Ford Motor Co. And who owned a big chunk of Dawber & Co.?? Pam, of course.

Nope don't know the VIN. basically I was hoping the DMV could do some magic search on my dad's name and tell me what cars he owned...thus getting the VIN or license plate# and go from there. I have some cop friends...maybe they could help out?

As for tracking down old cars, I have done it dozens of times. HOWEVER, there is a problem these days. In 1997, Congress passed the Drivers Security Protection Act (something like that) and what it did was make a Federal law that prohibits anyone from getting any personal information concerning any automobile title or registration unless you are law enforcement, etc. This was all a backlash to the death of actress Rebecca Schaeffer in California. She was stalked and murdered by some wacko that had used a detective to tracked down her address. Because of that incident, Congress clamped a lid on all state DMV personal information. I myself use to go down to the Arkansas DMV and track down dozens of old Corvettes and old cars that I either wanted to find, or wanted to know the background of. I found a 4 speed transmission from a '66 Corvette with the original serial number on it, then tracked down the owner of the car from 30 years ago. He had sold that car, but I ended up finding another '66 that I ended up buying. All you needed was a license plate number or a VIN number. But things have changed since then. I really don't know how anybody could track down any info these days. Fortunately for me, I still have a giant folder filed with old Corvette info that I saved from years back. So I have lots of leads. I just wish I had tracked down a Ferrari or two. But old F-cars are VERY scarce here in Arkansas.

Jim

Do you know the VIN - if there was such a thing. You might be able to pop it in to carfax and look a recent inspection/registration locations. This could narrow you search to a state or maybe a city

i will start there rob, thanks. I was thinking about hiring a PI to find it then I thought...why not just buy a red 308 gts and "become" a PI and find it myself!

Should be someone that maintains a registry. After a quick look, here's a good site...

http://www.camaros.net/

here's a 1968 Yenko...

I really couldn't find a specific registry for the 1968 RS though.

per another post "sister car"

....speaking of serial #'s. My dad owned a 1968 Camaro RS Convertible new. I would like track it down, buy it and restore it "regardless of condition". I know nothing other than the dealer he bought it from (per my mom), but 34 years ago??? I don't even think the dealer is the same now. My dad died in 1989 so can't ask him details.

Any ideas on how to track it down?
