Gents...I've just found this thread and would like to share my experiences with you. The previous owner of my car also told me that there was an equivalent BMW part available for the 328's electronic mirror switch (part # 61803100). He thought that it came from a late 1980's 3-series BMW. My local BMW dealer pulled up the 3-series parts manual on his monitor, and I ordered a switch that looked like the Ferrari's switch (BMW part # 61311378847). When I received the part a few days later, I was disappointed to find that it was different to the 328's switch. You will note from the pictures below that the BMW switch is curved, and the pins on the back are totally different:
The BMW switch is on the white background. Unfortunately there was no refund forthcoming from BMW Has anyone managed to track down the right BMW switch since this thread died out in September last year? Cheers, MARK

John...unfortunately, I never got a good look at the back of the switch while at the BMW parts counter. I asked the parts guy if he had a BMW 7 (700 ?) Series power window switch in stock (since that is what I had heard was the same one used in the 308, plus the fact that my defective 308 switch had the BMW logo etched on the back). He handed me a switch that looked identical to the pic you posted, and obviously it was the wrong one for my 308. He was not aware of any other available switches, and stated that they supplied parts for BMW's and not Ferrari's . The 308 switch looks very different from the 328 model. You might try bringing your defective one to the BMW dealer and asking if they have one similar, say from a 7 or 700 series car...just a thought. Sorry to not be of much more help than this. |

Ed & Eric -- on those BMW switches do you remember if they had anything printed other than the BMW logo?? This switch does not have the BMW logo but does have MELA printed on it?? Thanks for your input! |

Hey I am not the only one who got shot w/ the steel bb's!!! Actually I took it apart, cleaned it up and re-assembled -- no good! I have called about every major Ferrari dealer, the parts guy laughs and tells me no! I called T. Rutlands, Italian & Ferrari Parts Exchange, A big Zero! -- anybody got any other ideas????? |

I'd have to agree with Ed...a while back when I was searching for a replacement switch for the 308, I paid a visit to the local BMW dealer and told him that I needed a switch from a 7 series (?) BMW. He handed me one that was identical to yours in the pics. Can't recall the price, but it was the wrong switch for the 308. Incidentally, on the back of my 308's switch, it had the BMW logo etched on the plastic (which led me to the BMW dealer). I ended up buying the 308 model switch through T.Rutlands. |

I have actually opened up one of these, cleaned the switch surfaces with contact cleaner and even put the thing back together. It was getting generally cranky and that freshened it up. It's quite a simple device inside: just sliding contacts, no electronics or even micro switches. This may spoil someone's "fun" but if you open it, it's ready to shoot out about 10 spring loaded, very very small steel balls that you'll really enjoy finding on the floor... :-) |

I would go to a BMW store and see if anyone there would try to help you. It does look like one I have seen on BMWs. |

I'd be very interested in this as well, since my passenger mirror does not operate and I suspect the switch. |
