I have had the same experience as Jason with the ClearShield product. Had it on my 348 and it protected it great. I specifically requested it on my F355 F-1! Nothing worse than driving those back roads and finding that it is eating your paint away. |

Most of my stone chips are the high speed kind. Usually can count on a chip or two everytime I jump pass 100. I have one big one that I got at 145 mph -- on the right side headlight cover. Kind of like a birth mark --- that was my first time over 125 mph. But your point is well taken, on the highway stay at least 75 feet from other cars. |

3M scotchcal will not take off paint as long as the paint has cured for a week or so ....if you are concerned, have an authorised shop take care of it...... I used armourfend, and had them come and install it on my 360....front bumper, headlights, wheel arches, and side sills.....This stuff is VERY different from the crappy helicopter tape Ferrari are putting on the 360's.... all of the links mentioned on one of the threads here use 3M scotchcal....it will not yellow, it allows sun to penetrate to the paint, that way if you decide to take it off, there will be no colour differences in the paint....and this stuff is good, it will stop stone chips, and 99.9% of stones don't even mark it......Highly recommend that you have it profesionally installed, experience massively affects the quality of install....I insisted on having someone who had previously installed on a 360 Final point, if you want to dramatically reduce the chances of getting stone chips on the nose, don't drive so close to the car in front |

I heard from my mechanic and from some other source that this film can actually take the paint out when removing it. Does anybody know someone with that experience? I also understand that Bras actually scratch the paint with time. I don't know if it is due to particles getting caught between the Bra and the paint or the Bra itself. Any clarification on these issues will be greatly appreciated since I am considering doing the same on my TR. Thanks, Caribe. |

The film is a product manufactured by 3M called Scotchcal. It is sold under various brand names such as StoneGuard (http://www.stoneguard.com/sgcontent/what_sg.asp), ArmourFend (http://www.armourfendusa.com/Index.htm), X-PEL (http://www.xpel.com/paint/applications.html). I recently had it installed on my 348 Spider and so far it has been great. Used to be every time I took the car out for a high-speed spin I'd pick another handful of paint chips. Not anymore! |

Is it the same clear plastic film people use on there track cars? I've seen cars at the track that have it...supposed to block out road debris. I'll also check into the name of it. |

When I bought my GTB the car had a thin plastic film covering the front, up to and including the headlight pods. The previous owner put it on back in '89 when the car was repainted. I took it off because it was getting a grime buildup at the rear edges on the pods (but that's after 12 years!). The paint underneath was unmarked and after a wax there was no trace of it ever been there. I have seen this plastic film advertised and will let you know if I get time to track it down. Any one else had experience with this stuff ? |

Guys, I seem to be a chip magnet. I sometimes go months without any and then, like this week, 1, 2 3, then another. I feel like a chip magnet. Are any of you having a similar experience? Is there any way, besides a bra that I can limit the damage. I put these down as character but just wondering how to limit them. One more question, should I be skeptical when I see a Ferrari with 12,000 - 18,000 miles and no chips whatsoever (I mean none)and a history saying no repaint. Is this even possible? If you have done that let me know how. Thanks. |
