Thanks to everyone form sharing their experiences and opinions.

All the stories about Horseless really scared me off. Plus, I thought it was ridiculous that when I tried to book them, they wanted a 2-week window for pick-up!! I mean, come on, how loose of a ship are they running.

Intercity impressed me with their customer service but their quoted rate was nearly 35% higher than everyone else.

So, I decided to go with Passport. My delivery date is October 15 ---- I'll let you know it went.

Mr. Greg Owens,

I had almost the exact same problem with Horseless Carriage once. They missed the pick up twice (because the car was coming from a dealer, it needed to be picked up at certain hours Mon-Sat, they showed up after hours and then again on a Sunday).

I made numerous calls, but it went through one ear and out the other. They didn't care.

I ended up switching cariers.

I see that Horseless Carriage has not changed in the many years that has passed since I shipped a car with them.....took me over a month to get my car (AND it was damaged, had to deal with their horrible insurance company)......avoid HC

This past March, I had my 308QV transported from VA to FL with Horseless Carriage. They missed the pick-up date three times, the transport time took twice as long as stated, and they missed the drop-off date. The whole process that was supposed to take 1 week lasted close to 4. During the agrivating process, I made no less than two-dozen calls checking on each of the dates and periods of time each event was supposed to take. Never again with HC.

I've used Passport and Intercity to transport cross country (east coast to west coast) without any problems.

I had good service from Horseless Carriage transporting my 400i from California to Connecticut. I would highly recommend an enclosed transporter for the safety and the protection from road debris and the elements.

I haven't used a transport service as of yet, so can't really comment with experience....but a friend of mine uses Exotic Car Transport on a regular basis, and swears by them. He says they are the only ones he'll use.

Up until now, I've been transporting my vehicles in the enclosed car hauler; however, if I ever need to transport a car long distance, I'll be giving E.C.T. a call first.

I was very impressed with Tony and Pat. They were a husband and wife driving team for intercity.

I can highly recommend Gold Rush Motorcars (based in GA). In addition to my 308QV the coach had a fcar sold at Monterey auction for $2.4M! Driver was careful and professional, and price was very reasonable.

An enclosed trailer is a MUST when transporting exotic cars. Not for cleanliness, but for protection from stone chips and gd knows what else.

I have had excellent exepriences with the following transporters:

Exotic Car Transport
VIP
InterCity

David,
try to find an enclosed carrier in your area. I have used VIP from LA to Miami and they are based out of NC. So the car went to NC and then to Miami on a different truck. Not good.
Thanks to Tino being so kind to let me store the car at his warehouse I wanted to get it out of there ASAP and they told be they could pick it up Tuesday, so I paid them more than the best quote I got just for that. They ended up picking up on Saturday after and that just because Tino was leaving on a long trip and would not be able to meet the driver then for a week.

As far as I am concerned I will give Exotic Car Transport a shot next time. Based in Orlando that is clsoe enough to me and will give me the best service I am sure.

As for the enclosed or open trailer. If you carry an exotic I would NEVEr send it on an open truck. Their ramps are much steeper and will damage the car eventually. Especially if they loand and unload them while they make these long trips. They are carefull while you stand next to them but when you are gone it is just a piece of metal to them.

Nice story about that in our club newsletter TIFOSI 6 this month by Arthur Miller www.focfloridaregion.com

C smith - have you ever seen a car after going from florida to boston in a non enclosed carrier - it is definately worth it to enclose them for long hauls - especially with an exotic

Had a great driver from horseless come pick up a car I sold. Also have used Passport, they are OK.
I like Intercity Lines out of Mass. Great, super-clean trucks, super-professional drivers. Stay away from VIP, said they would get a car from So. Cal. to Miami in 5 days, it took 2 1/2 weeks. Make sure to write down your milage, and make it obvious to the driver. OH... I forgot, Intercity hauls ass, they get cars to where they are going quick! (Used them 3 times.)

I've used Horseless Carrage twice. Boston to Atlanta, NY to Tuscaloosa, AL; about $1000 each time. No problems at all but took a little longer than they quoted; say maybe 3 weeks when quoted 2. I beleive FOA uses them to ship from NJ to Atlanta.

I used Passport about two years ago with no complaints for FLA to CO at ~$1500 enclosed and ~15 days, but I think a lot has to do with the actual driver/equipment you get and when you do the shipping (i.e., better not around a big F show time).

I would highly advise against Autobahn Transport.
(They advertise in the back of Forza)

They told me it would take 2 weeks = it took 4 weeks

They told me the car would not be depoted somewhere = it was unloaded and reloaded twice

They told me they had Satelite Tracking = the driver could never be found

They quoted me different prices.

on the other hand......
I have used V.I.P. twice with good results.

Enclosed transport service sometimes is not worth the extra $$.....what do they offer for more money?...less dust on your car?....an open transporter may be the best option in many cases.

Before you try Horseless Carriage, you might want to read this post from the archives.

Grady didn't have such a good experience.

Horseless Carriage did an excellent and careful job for me between Florida and NY. Definitely not the cheapest, but I believe they are Ferrari's designated North America transporter.

Anyone have experience with any of these? --- Opinions (good or bad) greatly appreciated:

1) TNT
2) Passport Transport
3) Horseless Carriage
