Bret, after 1984, all Ferraris leaving the factory were dipped in a zinc solution, before painting, to prevent corrosion. Yes, your car should not be rusty.

I don't drive the Ferrari in the snow because that's not quite what it is made for. That's what I have the Jeep for. Everyone talks about rust, I have an 85 308QV and I've checked it head to toe and there is absolutely no rust anywhere on it. I figure I'll keep it that way and not drive it when there's salt on the road. Even when it rains I usually take the Jeep just because it's easier, although on occasion I break the Ferrari out. In northern Jersey we get enough snow to keep the red car off the road so I'm just itching for those spring days with the top stored behind the seats, cruising around.

Gosh, I waver...

The Old Man Hissownself always felt that his cars were made to be driven, raced and USED, not looked at. On the other hand, I don't want my car to entirely rust to pieces. Up here in Minnesota, salt is a way of life. I drive mine in winter if the roads are dry and the temp is above 20, and summer rains don't stop me.

This thread reminds me of a story that I read several years ago about Jim Kimberly (a Ferrari racer back in the '50s). The story has it that Kimberly complained to Ferrari that the paint was coming off of his car. Ferrari repainted the car, only to have the paint come off again.
Upon further questioning, Kimberly admitted that he routinely drove his car at 120mph on the salted roads in the upper mid-west where he lived. Apparently the paint was being sand blasted off by the grains of salt!

I planned on never driving my Ferrari in the rain, but there was an Italian Concours I really really wanted to go to. The Ferrari was great in the rain. No leaks, windshield wippers worked well, and the car handled ok. I went home, let it dry a little and then wipped it down. Not a trace of ever being in the rain. In Texas, there's only about 30 days a year when it does rain, so I just wait, because the next day will be sunny.

With the Mid West buried in snow it's all I can do to take my Cabriolet up and down the highway once a week to keep it in shape. It had almost 3 weeks with no use at all. For those of you with solid roofs, do you ever drive in snow? Rain?Beyond traction problems and washing the salt off, does anyone out there really use their Ferrari in all weather?
