This whole idea of resentment seems pretty sad to me. These judgemental people seem to be the snobby ones thinking they're better than Fcar owners because they drive Ford 150's. The 456 is a great car and best in blue IMO. Bring the car into the highclass neighborhood's. Leave the Fcar when you go into the middle or lower class areas. jason |

If u live in Beverly Hills or Aspen or Greenwich or Paris, no problem with the job. If you work with more middle class neighborhoods even the M5 will probably bring resentment I think |

Rob, I understand your concern about your clients. If these clients are high end - absolutely bring the car - and bring pictures of your previous remodels. If your clients are low end - bring the truck and pictures of remodels according to their price range. I am not self employed and work for a company as a mfg engineer / project manager. I don't take my car to work - I take the family minivan - point being - understand the people around you. |

first off, that is not a bad price for that car, depending on how sorted out it is. i would refer to the multiple threads already on this subject since i for one have instigated a few of them while i search for the perfect 456gt. secondly, regarding your clients, i would agree w/ martin. the builder who did most of the work on my house has a mercedes, tvr and a ferrari. my view is that to afford those cars he had to be successful, and to be successful he had to be doing a good job or he would never get referrals, so i hired him and i wasn't (too) disappointed. but then again i am the type of person that wants everybody to make lots of money; i never begrudge anybody's success. if you happen on to somebody that is naturally jealous (and lets face it thats about 80pct of the population at least), then you will have trouble. netnet, if it checks out, get the car and drive it to the high end clients, and take the truck to see the others.

Robert, last time I checke dit was a car. So yous you can put a lot of miles on it. Every day? most definetely. Especially the 456. Pulling up in your car at a client? That depends on what level clients you service. If you are dealing with high-end customers no problem. Will actually give you something to talk about. Further the 456 is the most "disguised" Ferrari and only few know what it is. An M5 will likely raise the same eyebrowes. If you are dealing with a lot of contractors and middle to low end customers I would get a pick-up. Would I give you the job? if you show up on time and your estimate and plan is better than the next you got it, no matter what you drive.

If you were to remodel my kitchen shouldn't you be driving a truck or something? ... :/ Either way, I'd get the 456... |

I guess it depends on what kind of business you're in. If you do government housing, I'd say don't pull up in a Ferrari. If you're an investment banker, it might be easier to project success. |

Robert I feel your pain. Few years back had a roofing contracter over. His bid was a little high, as was looking up at the roof he told me how he was thinking of going to the airstrip to fly his plane. Not a smart thing to say i thought. Everyone has a right to make a living, but i found someone else who was way less expensive, younger an hungrier to make a buck. In my biz i dont feel i can drive my car to my own stores without a lot of grief from my employees. |

A '95 456 would not be an "M". I had a '95 456 with about 30K miles on it that I used as a 1/3 daily driver. I found it comfortable, easy to drive, and (probably obviously) very fun to drive. Don't know about pulling up to client's houses - I never had to do that. Certainly driving a 456 would, in most people's minds, rightly or wrongly, indicate a certain wealth level. |

Have a question for all those who are interested. I have a 360, and I was looking to trade my A6 4.2 in for a M5 or something of that nature, but there is a 95 456 M with 22k on the ticker for 80k. The car is very nice but I have some questions for the group. Can you put a lot of miles on these cars. Do you think I can use this as a every day car? Will I loose business pulling up to clients houses in a F-car. Let me put it to you this way, If I was going to remodel your Kitchen, and I pulled up in this car would you be reluctant to give me the job. |
