Cool, they only built about 2500 or so 512TRs compared to 5000 550s :-)

Seems that recently people r tending to buy V8s like the 355 & 360, especially in the used car market, probably cus the maintenance is a lot less. Fine with me, just makes my fine flat 12 all the more exotic :-)

I don't see them below $95-100k in 5 years. They depreciate fast at first, but they stabalize a little going on 10 years old. The 328's stabalized over the past 5 years, and I think the 348's are in their 2nd year of stabalization. Only factor is the TR continued to go down past it's 10 years.

Hold onto your hats....
My inside man tells that we are going see a fairly dramatic reversal in 550 values. The stock of the car has risen SIGNIFICANTLY since the introduction of the 575M.
People are already getting back into them on the basis of the "SUPPOSED" underperformance of the 575M.
Now's the time to get one actually. (so they say).

i just think that there are so many of them (relatively of course since the total production is probably around 5000) out there, and the new one looks virtually identical to all but those of us on this site, that people will not jump on it till it gets relatively low. i may be unnecessarily pessimistic, and should say more like 75-100k (also forgot to take into account that i was talking in todays dollars vs 2007), but i really think i will be able to buy one at 75k if i wait another 2-3 years.

Ross,

How could the price go down that much? Is the 550 really that underappreciated?

not a sucky job, dude :-)

CW seems to suggest that 550s are depreciating roughly at the same rate as TRs depreciated at - maybe a bit faster due to the slumping economy the last few years.

so if you were to price out a (2007-1998 =) 9 year old TR and compare to MSRP you would be in the general ballpark, in theory. i guess that'd be a 512TR in 1993 (?) so maybe the 550 would be a bit more depreciation 'cuz the 512TR is a bit more rare.

just a random suggestion.

doody.

Most of you guys seem to know the price behavior of F-cars, so could you guess for me what a, say, 1998 550 with mid-range miles (20k) will cost in 2007? As far as I know, they stand at about $130k now here in the states.

I ask because that is the earliest time I can afford something in the high-end range. I fell in love with the 550 when I drove it my first week at Ferrari of Dallas, incredible car. I was their valet last year, my freshman year of college, best job ever.
