My Ferrari ownership days are probably over unless I win a Lottery. With the Stock Market depleating my self employed retirement savings, it has required me to take a more practical approach to my toys if I ever expect to be able to retire. I am not ready for debtors prison by any means, but everyone needs to keep a close watch on how the economy is doing as it is not getting better as fast as I thought it would. I am definately going to have to work longer than I had planned 2 years ago and all thoughts for an early retirement are gone. I hope to meet everyone that can come to the get together at Indy before the race before I fade away from here in keeping with my Ferrarichat beliefs.

It would be very hard to get what you want on a trade in on most any exotic, I would definately skip the thought of doing so. I have asked several dealers for trade in values on many cars and you would not believe what they are willing to pay for, I tell them to shove it up their ass. Almost half of bluebook, an example I asked for a trade in value for my Diablo I had for only 2 months which I purchased for $210K and the dealer said they would only give me $120K and I flipped! I said give me the same car and I'll pay you $130K and you can guess what they said... Don't even bother on a trade in- sell it outright. Those type of dealers assume you are made of money so they think you don't care what you get on a trade in, Screw that...

Ed, congrats on selling your car. Does this mean that you will change the pic in your profile, or will you keep it as a reminder?

Boy, Greg, you just missed a fine 308 2v. Sold mine today. The new owner looked at a bunch of them and bought mine at first glance.

Greg, I believe that was a typo... you used the terms, "dealer", "trade-in" and "fair" in the same sentence.

I already have a 308 QV, Carb 308. I just figured I would finish off the collection as I am not using the Lotus that much. I just wanted to try a 2V inj. 308 and use it as my daily. It doesn't have to be in perfect condition.

Greg: I had both; Lotus and 2V 308. I would definitely keep the Lotus. Outside of the looks, you will be VERY disappointed with the 2V performance. Wait till you can get either AT LEAST a 328, or better yet, a TR.....had both of them too.

Thanks for the info Henry and William. You are probably right. I didn't know there was going to be that much of a difference in $$$. It sounds like it will be better to sell it outright. I just thought it would be easier and the $$$ difference wouldn't be to substantial.

Greg: I tried that with a '90 Esprit SE. The result: less than wholesale for the Lotus and top retail for the Ferrari....NO sale.

My advice: Sell the Lotus outright (you will get more money), and buy the Ferrari with cash in your hands......you WILL get a better deal.

I saved about $10,000 doing it this way!!!!!!

what part of the country r u in ? Forza in CT seems to b a decent place. You do realize that a 2V 308 will probably be substantially slower than your Esprit? I would be very careful trading a car that distance, in fact I would do it in person. Good luck

I am thinking about trading my 88' Lotus Esprit Turbo, Red/Tan, for a 308 (2V Inj). Does anyone know of a good dealer etc.(non-auth. Ferrari) that is fair with trade ins. How would the transaction work expecially if the dealer is 1000 miles away? If anyone has any helpful info on a good dealer to trade with please let me know.
