Proof that these cars are fast sitting still! |

Here's the answer to the 10 mph speedo question. Take a close look at the speedo dial and there is a little pin that the pointer rests on at 10mph thereby preventing it from going to zero. |

1) I just bought my 348ts last month, but I've already gotten much more comfortable with 2nd gear engagement, although mine improves 100% once warm, its never "effortless". 2) My speedo shows 10 mph when stopped, but seems accurate in motion. 3) Don't know about the freon, but even if it was R12 originally, I think it could have been converted?? 4) My '90 has a shoulder strap solid mount just behind the spool for the lap, so I never use the annoying mouse. I despise the stupid things, and also considered converting to a standard belt, but I don't mind it so much now. Let us know if you find any info on converting. I think '89 348's had standard belts even US models. Mark |

Scott, The very first time a drove my '92 348, It was a to shift into second gear - at times, I even went from 1st to 3rd because I couldn't get it into 2nd. Then I realized the problem is me! yes, it is easier to shift into 2nd once it has warmed up, but getting used to it is the trick. I can now shift into second gear even when the car is still cold. The trick is getting used to the feel of the clutch and gearing... I find it easier to shift into 2nd in low RPM, but that's just my car. Good luck, Julian |

Scott, I own a '94 348. Here are my thoughts to your questions. 1) Normal for 2nd gear to be a little tougher to engage until the engine is warm (10 minutes of run time). If it persists you may have a syncro problem $$$. 2) Speedo reads 10 at a stop - does in my 348, 355f-1 and my 360! 3) Haven't a clue. 4) get used to broken belts but you should know that some dealers will repair as a warranty item given the potential liability to Ferrari. Regards. |

Scott, Prove me right and tell everyone that the Spider is in a class by itself! Not as much flex and squeaks like the ts/tb and better brakes, power and steering than a 328. ( cheaper than the 355 ) |

There are actually some variations from model build from a month-to-month basis. I have a 91 348 that was built in March 91 and then compared it to another that was built in April 1991 and noticed some changes. Another that I compared was built in July 91 but designated as a 1992 model has yet even more variations. To answer Question #3. The 348 workshop manual on page I23 stated Freon12, 950-1000 grams fill capacity. The shift to 2nd gear for me is easy, I do this little gas petal tap for 100 rpm or so when I shift and it goes real smooth, nope it not "double clutching or anything like that. My speedo shows about 10 mph standing as well. Here in California (in my neighborhood)some of the local police departments have these little trailers with radar displays that the motorist can see. I think it is some kind of advanced courtesy that the ticket cops will be there soon. Anyway I use them to calibrate my speedos on my cars and mine calibrates (matches) the display. |

For what its worth, my TR shows 10 mph when not moving. But I know it is accurate (Checked against another car plus involuntarily by radar a couple times). It probably has to do with the model year and type of speedo used.. When comparing cars remember to compare like year. Each years cars are slightly different with their own quirks so advice about something on a 92 348 may have no bearing or relevance to a 91 car. David's car below is a 1990, what was the year car you drove? Good luck and hope you find a nice car. |

Hey Scott, 1)My car nearly always shifts a bit slow into second gear...especially when cold. I've spoken to several 348 owners and they say the same thing 2)My speedo shows 0mph when not moving....even if I have it in gear and the engine running. So it doesn't sound normal to me. 3)Not sure 4)Haven't really had a problem with the motorized mouse so I haven't really looked into it...sorry! Good luck with your search. If you're really interested in the car...don't forget to have someone check it out for you. They'll probably get things you've missed. David |

Hi all. Drove a 348 Spider for the first time today. Liked the experience, but have some questions for those who own 348's. 1) Shifting into second, even after the gearbox was warm, was tough. Is this normal (I know about the cable shifter, but the other gears were much easier to snick into)? 2) Speedo indicated 10 mph when stopped, and engine running. Normal? 3) Is the refrigerant for the A/C R12 or R134a? 4) Has anyone converted the car to a standard 3 point belt, and thereby avoided the motorized mouse dance? Thanks in advance--Scott |
