That'll be my next paint job, then I'll call it project stealthy bi+ch. It'll be sweet. I think it would be kind of cool if you had a car painted in rubberized coats.

Would those big, ugly '70's bumpers count for coating the car in rubber (they literally do)?

I remember learning about how radar guns work in physics. (very interesting class-a possible college major) The use the doppler affect. Anyway, my teacher said coating your whole car in rubber make you almost invisble to radar. This doesnt seem like a plausable option to me though!

I am in Arizona. I just read all of the latest tests and it seems as though the Passport 8500, BEL 980 and Valentine 1 are all good units. Everyone I talked to likes the Valentine. I can buy the BEL for about $210.00 wholesale compared to the Valentine at $400, so I am going to give the BEL a try. I will compare it to the Valentine on our club drives to see how it performs.

Here in CA the Jammers are NOT legal. Detectors are fine, but almost useless. There are very strict rules on proper use and places that radar can be used, and the VAST majority of tix issused aren't within those parameters, and since people don't know this, they just pay.

Mark,
I had the passive one. I bought about 5 years ago for $200. What a waste of money. The guy that I ordered it from told me I didn't even need a radar detector anymore. I am glad I used on anyway. When my cousin became a cop I had him clock me and he got my speed everytime. The same company also makes something called a phazer which is supposedly a jammer and detector in one unit. I would not trust it either. I would be interested in an active jammer if it really worked.

Hey Fred,
Which Phantom do you have??? One is a box with a light, passive and is manufactured by Rocky Mountain Radar - I tested all of their products and it is one big hoax. The other Phantom is an actual active radar jammer and which seems to work great.

I have a valentine 1 and it is by far the best radar detector I have had. I also had a phantom radar jammer. It is a joke. It is just a box with a light in it. When my cousin became a cop I had him clock me. He got my speed everytime. I have since read quite a few reviews confirming this.

I found the new manufacturer of my jammer. It is a Phantom & I highly recommend it. I did a lot of testing on this and others. A motorcycle was invisable to the radar up to 3 feet away. My truck was good to around 100'

I have an actual radar jammer that is awesome. I'm not sure where you can get one now for this company is gone. Stay away from Rocky Mountain radar jammers and detectors, they are a fraud. They also go under other names so do your homework. Valentine has gotten great reviews and seems to be the best and highest quality.
Good Luck!!

Yes, they do get you head-on on the move... $178 later and I wasn't even in my Ferrari!

We discussed this at great length elsewhere here, I believe in this "General Discussion" forum. Try the keyword search to the left.

info at http://www.radartest.com/

yes, you can be hit from about any angle, but depending on the radar gun used, and the angle, would depend on errors if there is any. for example being shot perpendicular/from the side, would generate the largest error.

I'd still contest the ticket, and of course if you email me, I can send you text documents and a personal story or two in how I have handled tickets in court, the proceedings and what to expect if you haven't been through this before.

also, if you live in VA, detectors are illegal and can be taken up by the officer. some authorities even have detector detectors - which only a few radar detectors have anti-detector-detectors built in, or was it because of what they are made of? not sure, but just something to look for.

also, regarding laser detectors - get a separate one.

personally, I have the V1 - http://www.valentine1.com and love it. its got the directionals on it that I usually live by when you know how to use them. other detectors just giving an on/off and the intensity doesn't do it for me - I'm not one to just brake for X band detection or just any K band, but it all depends where I am, and what is around me.

Their are some laser/radar jammers out their they send one signal back to the cop at 15mph and another at 315mph which gives the detector an unreadable signal (pretty cool). The last radar ticket I got I beat in court because the cop was not yet certified in the use of the gun so it was thrown out (lucky). You can also try to find out when the cops days off are or vacation days by calling the station and asking for him/her and see if they are on duty. Also try to have the 1st court date put off for the full 60 days and plead not gluity then set the trial date as far away as possible his will give you time and maybe the paper work (the cops) will get lost (happens). If I tell you any more Id afto kill you JUST KIDDING GOOD LUCK

Sorry to hear about your ticket. I had a Passport SR1 installed as soon as I got my Ferrari. It is a concealed unit with radar and laser detection front & rear. I installed the small control unit under the flip-up radio cover in the dash. With the lid down it is impossible to detect that there is a detector.

Which one is the best is debatable, but I bought the SR1 based on the results of the test at the link below, which compared it to the K40 and some others, and rated the SR1 number 1:

I just got a speeding radar ticket in my 355 Spider (imagine that). Was wondering who has the best radar detector. I got clocked from an oncoming police car. I didn't realize they could get you as they were coming at you but I do now. Any opinions on which detector works the best? Also anyone had any lick beating these speeding tickets with radar?
