Is anyone allowed to go and watch? I'd love to see and hear all of those ferraris. The countach does look amazing and truly exotic, imo. Dont get me wrong, so does the 512, but the countach does moreso. Thoe countach doesnt have power steering or brakes, right? |

Ferrari Club of America track date is Aug 3-5 at LRP. The 512TR & the Countach r 2 very different cars, but in general I prefer the 512TR cus its faster & smoother |

Im done wanting an camaro iroc. But as for the GNX, it would make a great daily dirver. It even has good fuel ecnomy, especially with its turbo v6. It also had impressive torque, 350lb/ft. I know i wouldnt get good gas milage in one though, or rear tire life for that matter. I have a feeling i would use the gas pedal very "liberally." |

Bret can vouch for me, I'm the chat room joker. Enjoy your Iroc Grand National. Remember, chicks only go all they way for guys with Ferrari's. |

Hey, Grand Nationals and GNX's are rediculously fast. 1/4th mile in low 13s and o-60 in 4.8. Also comfortable. You can also get tehm in any color you want, as long as its black. I wanted an 89 iroc before that and now i want a ferrari, so im getting better at least . |

We gotta set a date and do it. I was thinking about taking my car for the ride up to Lime Rock to watch the Ferrari Challenge. I haven't decided if I am going or not yet, but I think I should. I live just across the border of NY/NJ on the NJ side. |

Wow, you have a countach and a 512tr. Which one is faster and which one do you like more? From what ive read, 512s are much more refined and more driveable. Whats on those dates? I could probably make it on sat. and sun. Any week day would interfere with work and football. I was gonna go up on the 23rd of this month. I'll post some links with info about that weekend. I've never been there before, so im looking forward to it. It cant be that far from my house bc im 10 mins from ct, and ct isnt a very big state. according to mapquest its 68 miles and a 2 hour drive, but thats at the limit, and who actually goes 55 on 684? Anyway, the 23rd looks really cool, they are gonna have alot of cars. here are some links- http://www.limerockpark.com/LRP-News/articles/news71.html http://www.limerockpark.com/LRP-Events/ferrari.html http://www.limerockpark.com/LRP-Events/ferrariSchedule.html |

Bret- Im about a half hour from there. I live across the river in Pleasantville. This car is anything but comfortable. This thing has a really rough ride. It isnt a good type of rough. Whenever i go down to englishtown to watch him run it in the 1/4th, i get there with a sore back. It doesnt even handle very well and it has alot of brake dive. Im sure the performance of your car more than makes up for the ride, but i cant imagine its that bad. I would like to check out your car. I remeber seeing a red one a few years ago and ive liked them ever since. What color is yours? Is anyone going to the ferrari challenge at lime rock in two weeks? A friend and i were thining about taking a trip up there. tim |

Yeah I'm the same size as you Tim and I fit well in my 85 308GTS. There isnt a lot of room to spare, but it's worth it. I just took my car down the shore this weekend, like a 60-70 mile drive and I was fine. My friend and I (he has a very sport BMW) were really moving too down the parkway and when I got there I wasn't phased at all from driving so long. There's something about Ferraris that sets them apart from any other car. I'll definitely have more of them in the future, once you start you become addicted. My friend's boat (it's ridiculously overpowered race boat) has that same exhaust switch that you're talking about, it's pretty cool. The newer cars are definitely better riding and more comfortable, but the 308 is still my favorite Ferrari. How far away from Wide World of Cars are you? The Sales Manager/Part Owner's daughter goes to school with me and I go up there often. Sometime we should meet up and you can check out my car, it's always more fun when you aren't at the dealership. |

Tim, I drove a friends Buick GNX, it does have power but the handling & brakes r pretty awful, it looks pretty awful too compared to a 308 Once u feel how light the 308 handles & how well it brakes, you'll forget about the GNX |

Also, i noticed how mch more involving it can be to drive a ferrari. Although i have yet to experiece it, i can imagine how good it must be. My friends camaro feels like yopu sit on the car, around corners you dont feel very involved. Its like you are just along for the ride and not really controlling the car. The steering is also too numb. Its only redeeming quality is its power and speed in a straight line and its sound (its good, but its nothing compared to the high piched mechanical wail of a ferrari) |

Fred- I'd be happy take your 355 off your hands in a few years . I dont know if anyone here is familiar with 86-87 Buick Grand Nationals, but thats probably gonna be my first car. They have a 3.6l turbo v6 with 350ft/lbs of torque, are comfortable, and cheap to make fast because they are turboed. They were the fastest regular produtcion car made in america in 87. It may not be a ferrari, but its better than those god awful honda civics and other japanese imports with blue corner lights, a huge ungly wing, and an exuast that sounds almost flatulent. no offesne if you own one. I have a honda, at least its relaible. Its hard to choose, So many cars....... |

I would suggest u get a 308GT4 Dino or an 308GTSi as a good starter Ferrari. If u look around u can get a 308GT4 for around $15k & a 308GTSi for around $20k. Just keep in mind that tune up every 15,000 miles r Expensive!!!! like $5,000 so if u r on a tight budget u ABSOLUTELY HAVE to have all the cars service records so u dont end up with a lemon in need of restoration. Also make sure u have a mechanic look the car over before buying. this can save u A LOT of $ down the road |

Tim- I dreamed of owning a Ferrari in high school...after years of working too hard, I now own a '96 F355 Spider. I'm 5'11" about 230#, my son (15-year-old) is 6'5" about 280#, and we fit just fine. We had to learn the "Ferrari dance" to get in and out, especially when the top is up, but once inside, the seats are very comfortable. The pedals are no problem at all; their location is great for "heel-and-toe" shifting. When you are driving down an open road at 100+, you and the car become one...a Mercedes-owning friend remarked about how the chassis/engine layout means that the car "turns around you" instead of throwing you around. I highly recommend the 355 Spider...maybe you can buy mine in a few years. Fred |

I know a friend who could probably rig window motors. He fit his camaro with a servo operated exaust cut out. It comes in handy when we get pulled over, (it happes ALOT)we just hit a switch and it goes back to stock sound. Also good for quiet neighborhoods at night (not all kids are disrespectful punks) |

Rob- I got the daily driver lined up- my moms 94 accord. Asking my to stop spending money on beer and ladies is too much,(especaily the beer, i have a girl as of now, sort of). Are 328's amlost bottomed out as far as prices? Bret, if youre reading this, how did you do it? thanks, tim |

Tim, I've noticed that a Mini has a worse pedal offset than my GT4 (whether that Mini was LHD or RHD). I'm 5'7" and fit perfectly in it, although my neighbor at 6'+ was a tight fit but didn't mind (he was just excited he was riding in a Ferrari). I find my car very comfortable, even after long drives. Maybe in college going for your engineering degree, your project could be a retrofit kit for Ferrari window motors J. |

I totaly agree with the respect idea. I treat people the way to be treated (i must have heard that every day from my mom when i was a kid). I cant wait to own a one of these. They are the best reason to want to be sucessful i my mind. Thanks for the input. |

So little time, so much to talk about. 1) Ferrari at 17 - if you can like Bretm, great, if not, time goes by fast and you will someday. I was in love with Ferrari at age 10 and my goal I set when 14 was to have one by 30. I ended up getting one at 26. If you have a Ferrari, then you'll need a daily driver and also budget about $1,000 a year for maint costs. I didn't have that kind of money until a few years out of college. All my college money went to beer and the ladies. Also, if you need help convincing your dad, pull out a spreadsheet with the standard depreciation of the typical car with the appreciation potential of a Ferrari. 2) Drivability of Ferrari - My 328 fits me with room to spare and I'm 195 6'1". My head might stick out a little with the seat up to fit the roof behind. Also, when the roof is behind, my shins might hit the dash now and then. As far as the foot placement and things like shifting... I came from a sporty 325is BMW and it was hard to adjust to the race bred Ferrari. However, now after getting use to it, even the BMW feels loose and soft and I look forward to the Ferrari days. 3) Reliability - Car by Car, Model by Model. 328 is one of the more reliable. 100k+ mile cars common. Oil change every 1-3k miles and then 15k service only is common. Treat her right and she won't leave you. 4) Wife won't let you have a fast car - Set things straight from day 1, Jennie is great, but she knew from day about my affair with Ferrari. |

Tim, I've always learned alot about people when you see how they treat the folks who don't necessarily seem important. Find the salesman or dealer or even an individual seller that takes you seriously. Maybe you are young, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't be treated with respect. Of course that's a two way street. As far as the comfort of a Ferrari, it will depend on your build as well as the type of car. It will also depend on what you are used to. I find the pedal offset is not as odd as you would expect. In fact it feels quite normal almost immediatly. As far as reliabilty. Maintenece is the key to a happy relationship. |

Thats very reasuring to know they last that long. Im 6'1", but i wouldnt mind having not enough head room! But i wiegh in at 175, so i should fit. Maybe i'll opt for a GTS model, then head room wont be much of an issue. Im getting ahead of myself. Also, i may own a Ferrari sooner than i think. My dad told me a while ago that if i graduate from college phi beta kappa that he'd buy me the car of my choice, but i'd rather work for it, it would make it more enjoyable when i took it out for a weekend cruise. |

Comfort is a very subjective thing. It also depends on how tall & wide u r. If u r way over 6' or well over 250# I would say look elsewhere. That said I'd rather b slightly uncomfortable in my 512TR than very comfy in a Minivan Ferraris r Tough cars & can take a serious beating. If u do proper maintenance on them & dont overly abuse them they r quite reliable. As for a Ferraris lifetime. Lots of Ferraris from the 50s r still on the road with well over 100,000 miles. how many Toyotas from the 60s r still on the road today ? |

we roll up in my friend's brand new black camaro ss with straight pipes. You can hear that thing from a mile away with the switch flipped that opens the cutout. Its fast too (13.10 1/4th, more work now, should break into thr 12's) and it handles with all of its suspension work. It must be the area. No offense intended to anyone who lives there, but Greenwhich seems like sort of a stuck up place. The Audi dealership is very gppd though, my family just bought a car from there. Very nice, if you need and all-weather car that is fast, look into an S4! (no we didnt get one, reserved one though. My mom didnt want my father and i to have a car with so much power. my wife is never gonna control me liike that when it comes to cars. i say that now, but i'll probably be wrong.) |

I will ask him. I have a job that pays well and it better, considering i slave for hours, 8 a day, in ths sun doing back breaking labor for the town of Pleasantville, NY. I would love to own a 308. From what i understand they handle like nothing else from that time period, and can be worked on at home. They also look good. I guess it would be good for me to work on a car because i really want to be an engineering major in college. Time to use my convinving skills that run in the family (my dad is a lawyer)to get my dad to give me a loan. About the dealer my friend went to- he said the people there were very nice and professional. One of the people there said all the cars were all open and he was welcome to sit in them. I have yet to go there, but it should be better than Miller Motorcars in Greenwhich, ct. The employees there came off as condescending. They wouldnt even let us look in the cars. They werent too enthusiastic about answering our questions either. Thanks fot the input. tim |

Hi Im new here. I love Ferraris, but i do not have the financial means to obtain one, as i just turned 17 and am going to be a senior in high school next year. Anyway, my friend was at Wide world of Cars in Spring Valley, NY a few days ago. He sat in a 355 spider. He said that the seats were very hard and not very supportive and that the offset pedals might have been a pain if he were driving the car. Does anyone find these annoying, or does the performance of the car make these things not a problem? Also, are Ferrari really that unreliable? How often does a properly maintained one have serious problems? I know it depends on maintenence and driving style, but how many miles might be expected out of, say, a 355 or 348? Thanks Tim |
