Hey there Rob. Thanks again for all the info. So you are in the Kansas area. I have never been to that range but have friends who have. They are in guard units at Tulsa and at Ft Smith Arkansas. It is pretty neat to get in the tower and see strafing and bombing from that close. So your wife went to the USAFA? It is a tough place and not for everyone that is for sure. I took another route to the Air Force. Well, off to go learn how to relax owning a Ferrari. It's tough not stressing. Thanks again for the info. Glen

My dream as a kid was to be a pilot. I wasn't into cars until a few years ago, although always into Ferraris, I was more into planes as a kid. I had every plane memorized. My wife spent a semester at the USAFA, but she never got over being yelled at and not being an individual.

Have you ever flown training missions at Smokey Hill weapons range in central KS? I lived about 20 miles from there and we would go up in the tower to watch F-16's, A-7's, F-4's, and A-10's striffen? and drop little target bombs. Pretty dang cool when hundreds of bullets come out so fast it sounds like one shot.

Thank you thank you thank you to you all. You are either telling the truth, which I know you are, or you are real convincing liars. Seriously though. I have always dreamed of owning a Ferrari and like I think many of you know I am in the Air Force so I don't make that much money...I am reaaally cheap and have saved for 6 years. Anyway, that is good to hear. I admit I was a bit nervous and had some sleepless nights thinking man did I get taken to the cleaners. My Ferrari is already leaking after the major service. Thanks so much for y'alls expertise. I have dreamed of owning Ferraris for 20 years but surprisingly my mechanical knowledge about them is terribly low. PS. Rob, I was one of the guys who trained the Thunderbirds on that Discovery channel show. They actually filmed me quite a bit but it doesn't sound like they used any of the clips. Now you guys can make fun of me. On speedvision and Ripleys you might see an F-16 race a Dodge Viper, billed the Viper v Viper race. I was the one who raced the F-16. I am trying to set the same thing up with the Ferrari club next year. Ripleys tried to get me to say on camera that I wanted a Dodge Viper but I wasn't allowed to endorse anything. Good thing cause I wouldn't have said I wanted a Viper. Thanks again guys. Thanks for putting up with my ignorance. Sincerely, Glen

Jim, would you please post a link to the Griots mat. The only ones that I could find on their site cost $199.

Thanks,
Jim V.

If you haven't already, invest in one of the floor mats from Griots Garage. $14 and it holds a TON of oil while keeping it off of your garage floor. My first one lasted a year, I just bought my second.

They don't leak. They mark their territory.

They were designed well enough not to leak, but they are not assembled well enough not to leak nor or the gaskets, seals ect.. of sufficient quailty to keep them from leaking even on the rare car that was assembled well.

If a Ferrari does not leak oil, it probably has none.

They were not designed to leak. They were not designed well enough not to leak.

How do you tell a real Ferrari from a replica?

The real Ferrari leaks oil, trans fluid, etc.

A drop a WEEK? My car leaves a 2 inch diameter puddle in 4 HOURS! I've been told I have to pull the engine to fix it, and oil is cheap.

It's normal...an expert in a recent Forza issue explained it

Glen, start another thread about how the Ferrari can push your buttons after flying a F-16? I can't imagine, if I flew a F-16, I don't know if I could handle any more excitement. I just watched the Discovery show on the Thunderbirds today.

Absolutely normal. My 328 drips one drop after about every 5th drive.

Since I bought my 328 I had that problem. Or even better, it isn't a problem as ferrari importer says: "It's normal that every Ferrari, specially the more aged ones leaks some oil." Don't worry! Just be careful and watch the oil level.

The cam seals on every Ferrari I have owned have always seeped a little oil. The only thing you have to watch for is to be sure the oil is not leaking on to the exhaust, alternator or any other electrical component/wiring. That can result in fire and/or expensive repairs.

87 Mondial 3.2 with 60,000 klm, driven a few times a week, not one drop of oil anywhere! Not that it would worry me though as I expect oil leaks from Ferrari's! Maybe there is something wrong with mine? ;^)

Glen, one drop a week from a 23 yr old Italian car? I'll bet your F-16 even leaks a little oil, doesn't it? Don't sweat it!

After 3 1/2 years and 20,000 miles, the day my TR stops giving me a couple drops of oil a week I am going to think she's sick or something or worse, someone stole my original Ferrari engine and put in a fake. :-) Enjoy the car my Glen, sounds normal and welcome.

One drop of oil a week? I can assure you that's a healthy amount and you may sleep well at night.

You have had the 30K service done and its a nice low mile'r, drive the car and enjoy...

Hi folks. I need some help from the experts who know some stuff about 328's or Ferraris in general. I bought a 1989 328 GTS one owner, Arizona car with 10750 miles on it always maintained by the local dealer. It was pampered by a 57 year old man. It hadn't been driven hardly at all and was late to get the 15k service. It had oil residue on the back underside. I had the car inspected by the dealer, asked him about the oil and he said it is very minor and should be fixed with new cam seals and other seals that came with the major 30k service, the works, I had done as part of the sale. The first 3 months I had the car back it had no oil sepage. About 2 months ago I noticed a small oil spot on the ground. I put cardboard under to see in time if it was leaking. Bottom line, the car seeps about 1 drip of oil a week. Is that something to be concerned about or is that something to chalk up to the don't be such a worry wart category. Be honest either way what you guys think. Is this normal? Have you heard of this before. I would appreciate some advice. Thanks a million, Glen
