Martin the car has 8100 miles. If it is the cats, what is the warranty for them? There is no warranty on the car but I understand that emmisions may still be warranteed, is that correct?

I have just had the same problem with my 355. The 1-4 bank light came on and off with the slight engine miss. I checked the connections and found the problem to be a crack in the ECU controlling that bank as advised by Mark. The service manager advised me that this was a common problem with the 355's. I have now had this replaced and the car is fine. The cost should only be around USD250 and the job takes all of 10 minutes.

The warranty on a grey market car is not void, although it is not honored by an FNA dealer. The warranty is still good in the country where the car was originally imported.

If so, I must have a bad CAT ... bummer. I guess I have to switch to test pipes now :-)

I guess the warranty is void if you grey imported the car ;O

Art,
I have heard that from so many people now that even after taking them out the car still passes. Shows you how well advanced Ferrari really is. They get a clean burn out of the engine.

Mine had the check-engine coming for the Cat. Although I also read that the slow down realls is the overheating of the car, which woudl indicate thermocoupler or the cat has melted. I think though that is is more on the heat level to prevent melting than the actual melting. Whereas the engine check is that there is a mis management in the system.
BTW my error codes told us everytime something different. If it tells you the O2 sensor switch it to the other bank and see if the problem travels. If it does you know it was the O2 sensor, if it comes back on the same bank you have a bad Cat.

The Slowdown light came on on mine due to failed Oxygen sensors (these are bolted in to the Cats) well not the sensors but the ECU's that control them. they are prone to cracking then moisture gets in and causes a bad connection. You're looking for a black rectangualr box roughly 3 x 1 x 1 inches with green or red plastic on one side and a 3 or 4 wire connection. One is mounted on the RH Side beneath the vacuum pump (between the wheel arch and the rear bumper) the LH one is mounted on the chassis between the LH Air filter housing and the top of the suspension damper (you might have to remove the cover to get to this one.

Worth a look, they are about 80 GBP

As an aside 355 cats have recently changed in the UK and Europe from Ceramic to Metallic, don't know if it is the same for US variants. The price has almost doubled to around 800GBP however I understand Ferrari are offering an unlimited warranty on the new ones

CATGS cost 1500. However there are several places that will dissemble the CAT, replace the inners, and you'll be legal again. They charge abvout 500 per.

My 95 would throw a check Engine light for the 1-4 bank--ended up beeing a Cat (at 29K and 7 years).

Symptom: engine running fine down the road at low power levels, then a smalll hick-up, Check Engine light comes on, engine power is reduced for about 2 minutes, then engine comes back as light goes out.

This happened several times, in each instance, if I let the car warm up fully before driving, it did NOT happen. If I only did a 1/2 warm-up, it would happen about 1/2 the time.

The Cat cost me $1100, but since the clutch was beeing "done" the labor for the cat was minimal.

Martin, they come with cats? I never knew that. First like acw said disconnect the battery to erase the code then check all connctions in the engine compartment, sometimes they are loose or dirty, check the gas cap (very sensitive on OBDII), then reconnect the battery and drive it. If it comes up you have to get it checked. Anyone with a scanner can check it. I think if it was the cats the slow down lights would come on.

While this light can mean many things, I have experienced this on my 360 when I failed to secure the fuel cap properly. Check the fuel cap and make sure it is tight, then turn off the battery and then back on to reset the computer.

My check engine light came on tonight while driving and was wondering what others have experienced when this happened? Any ideas or personal experience before I take it in for another dealer check-up?(97 355 spider)
