saving is the right answer, I'm 23 and I have owned my 308 for two months but I saved every penny I could with my business and sold a 1967 fully restored gt mustang to buy my 308 which is a very nice toy and after my wife saw why I did all that she applogized for getting mad at me for selling the mustang. |

I live in Maine and had to get over the issue of 'where do you take a Ferrari for servicing up here". However about a year ago I took the plunge, bought a 308 and never regretted it. If the car gives me problems I become philosophical and have a nice glass of red wine. Problems and finances usually have a way of sorting themselves out. Take the plunge - you won't regret it. |

I just brought home my first Ferrari in March. I must say I have the greatest wife. She postponed her dining set so I could bring home my lifes dream. She is even looking forward to me trading up from my 308 to a TR in the next two years. All I have to do is furnish her dining room and do some wood flooring....no problem! |

I just re-sheetrocked our garage and painted the floor gray this past weekend. My wife came back from a trip to Houston and said "oh the garage looks great......wait, are you getting it ready for a ferrari?" I just smiled. |

Jim, I got mine after we had a child. It works well if the child likes the car( my daughter is dressing Schumi for Halloween)and it is a 2 seater model. When the wife is annoying you take the child for a ride. you can kill two birds with one stone,( you get away from the wife and you spend quality time with your child) |

Robert Kiyosaki has a quote or way of thinking in his book Rich Dad/Poor Dad that says..."don't say you can't afford something, say how can I afford that?" He says that saying you can't afford something is the minds way of giving up. We just had a go cart race in Dallas Tues night and there were 5 f-cars there. My wife sat in and started Greg's red TR....she then looked up at me while still stting in it and said..."you have my permission to get one of these." |

Jim, Get everything done first. Get the new furniture, new carpet, new landscaping , new kids, etc. Keep the better half happy. It make getting a Ferrari that much easier. It's a great feeling when my two little "mama's boys" forget to say bye to mommy because they are in a rush to go for a ride in the Ferrari! Anything in life you want bad enough - you will get. It is just a matter of time. Go rent one for a day - that will buy you some time. |

jim, like they said, watch your pennies and the dollars will follow. most wealthy people are parsimonious, so there is no shame in being cheap. and again its a question of priorities; my other car at the moment is a 10 year old mercedes station wagon with 111k on the clock and a dent in every panel ! |

My '77 GTB was cheap, looks and drives fantastic, is a total blast behind the wheel and is not likely to go down in value. My annual tag fee is $25. A years insurance cost me $179. The carb cars sound incredible and can be maintained by a DIY. My car will run with any stock QV and it cost a good bit less. I drive a 150K mile '89 Isuzu Trooper as a daily car. Well, not daily because I also have a hotrod '69 911S and I drive it and the Ferrari a ton. My Trooper is worth nothing but is paid for as is the 911. The loan on the 308 is cheap. JUST DO IT! You wont be sorry! |

Jim, one of my lifes observations is that if you stress about a certain amount of money it will always be short. Spend it and it will come back to you. If I were in your shoes and you can afford the 308/328 right now, buy it and work on the next $50K to add the TR to your collection. There is nothing better than adding instead of replacing! You will see how fast your TR will follow, although you can not see today where that additional money will be coming from. Trust me. Damn, I should write that book! |

For Ron Thomas, Don't feel bad!! That's why I like being single for a while. I am working on my next 550. I have to prioritize one thing (buying a practice) before I am committed to another Ferrari. Being happy with my daily C2 cab driving. Weather is still great in the Pacific Northwest!! |

I have some friends down on the M Streets who paid $90K for their house 9 years ago and they are going for $250K+ now. They wanted to build new in the area and it was cheaper for them to tear down their own house and build on top rather than buy a lot. |

I paid $115k for 1.4 acres and the house came with it for free. Actually the house took away value because of the cost to demolish it. Anyway, what were we talking about again? |

She's cruised for guys once or a dozen, she drove it to school earlier this year (36 students in grad PA program at UTSWMC) and the classmate most interested (of course) was a former Mr. America Junior or something like that. He has a souped up vette. Man I have no chance, 28, gray hair, and living in a trailer park. ;) |

Impatience when buying a Ferarri will bring you grief. Look at all options in a timely fashion and do not rush to buy. It is a buyers market that is getting better all the time. |

Yes, that is a thought. Get the 328 and just keep it forever and get the other later. My wife likes the TR's better and not the "Magnum" Ferrari. I keep telling her a 328 is not a magnum version, but to her a camaro and trans am are the same car so what's the use? I think she would like whatever we bought. last night she said she preferred the color red. i had no idea she "preferred" a color so we are on the right path. My wife is a redhead so a TR would be a cool "red headed" addition. |

My best friend already has dibs. I'm worth more dead than alive, so he could add a few dozen more cars to his collection and have Jennie. Heck with job security, I don't have very good life security right now. Jim, ever thought of getting what you can now and then just upgrade when you can. When I got mine I had that philosophy, but now I don't know if I could get rid of her (the 328). maybe the only car I would trade her in on would be a 355 GTS. My philosophy now is to add add add, but not subtract. Also, the 328 insurance is less than my 1993 BMW, both with Geico and both with unlimited miles. When I get my garage built, I'll look into collectible car insurance though. |

Well what is killing me is that prices are so low now. I could run out and buy a decent 328 for $38K and be done with it. I do love that car! But I really want a TR and they are still about $60K (plus maint)so I would have to stretch to do it and I don't think that is too smart. So my senses tell me I should wait, but I am a selfish, only child who is used to instant gratification so the waiting is killing me. |

I would wait until the time is right. Rob is right. Priorities. I saved my money until I could pay for my Ferrari. I also watched my pennies too. Small things can add up to large ones. Rather than eating out, make your own dinner, etc. See what you value and what items you don't neccessarily have to have at that moment. I too drive an almost 200K Volvo everday. |

Priorities priorities. My wife knows she's #2. We have a 800 square foot house and I have a 130k mile BMW as a daily driver. Just made sacrifices to make it work. Have a $720 a month home equity loan for the Ferrari. It's really not too bad and interest is deductible. |

Ernie: I like your advice! I guess the only thing worse than not getting a F-car would be having to sell it due to the economy. |

How the hell am I ever going to afford a Ferrari? With all the crap going on like new furniture, new fence, new carpet, new landscaping ongoing business expenses, blah blah blah...this doesn't even count eating, vacations or god forbid SAVING any money! Now we are talking about having a kid. I am all for it, but I need my toys too. I need a sugar daddy...or momma I mean. Any takers? |
