OT to Michael -

I'm far from NY but the RED is for Fire Fighter Memorial, I would gather in honor of those lives lost in the fire on Father's day.

here's the rest of the ESB lighting goodies:

and the upcoming lighting can be found at the bottom of this page:

Bret, guess I should have told you because I just got back from dinner in New York again tonight. The restaurants up there are addictive. I will see when I will be up again, probably this weekend or early next week.

BTW, do you know why the Empirwe State Building was lit up red tonight. I never saw that before. Last night it was blue/greenish. Any particular meaning?

Teterboro is right near where a lot of my family lives. It's a pretty classy little airport. You should have told me you were coming up, I would've gone racing past the airport a couple times.

Hi Bret, yes except my lake is 17 m long by 1 m wide & the speed limit is 45 mph so by the time I finish lighting both turbines I'd b across the Lake & every1 would hate me :)
Maybe a hot Rod Jetski ?

Cool boat but the jet is way more useful.

Hey, Bret I was just up in your neck of the woods for dinner tonight -- Left Northern Virginia at 6 PM, Landed at Teterboro, had a leisurely dinner and got back home to by 11:15 PM-- let's see a boat do that.

Go for the jet William.

Yeah I know about selling the 308, but I'm gonna have to sooner or later. You guys are lucky cause you're already set, now I gotta go to college and stuff which sucks. Maybe I can con my dad into buying me a vette for college and keep the 308 at home for him. Or maybe I can get him to buy the 308 off of me and then I can buy a vette. I'll work on conning him.

William, you have a house near a lake right? I know what you should get then. Across the bay from my friends shore house this guy has a like a 45 foot cigarette with two jet engines on it. It puts out somethinglike 3000hp and it definitely the fastest boat I will ever see. It's called a Twin Jet or something. They cost like half a million, but it's amazing. He fires the thing up and it's so loud with that hissing sound of a jet, and then the fact that it'll do like a 150 across the bay (it could go faster but it would probably become airborn which would put a damper on the day). For a 45th birthday it would definitely be pretty crazy.

I'm not too far behind Bills track record. I'm 29 now and just got my 308 GTS QV. I'm planning on having my Testarossa (whether is a series 1 or a 512 will depend on some investments I made) or a 512 Boxer with a bonnet full of carbs before I am 35. Right now I have a 95 VW GTI VR6, 86 VW GTI SCCA race car, a Jaguar XJS V12 and the 308. I'll sell the Jaguar to get the down payment for the next Cavallino in my stables. I intend on having many. I have had 4 Maseratis, 2 Porsche 911s, a Triumph, a MGB GT, a couple a big block V8 cars, a Lotus Eclat...hmm that reminds me of a good topic.....

I just realized, I bought my 84 308 QV when I was 25 & my 93 512TR when I turned 35. Wonder what I'll get at 45 ?
What I want has 2 jet engines attached & goes 500 mph + :)

Well, if you let me borrow your Countach for a weekend I wll gladly agree that you are Very mature (I might also be saying crazy, insane, what an idiot etc. under my breathe but don't worry you won't hear.) :)

Hey Bill, I like your style. A Vantage or a Virage are gorgeous cars. How about a Jag XJ220? Heck, you already have a 512TR and a Countach!! You know I found that the Countach is one of my favorite handling road cars ever! If everything goes as planned, I will add my second Ferrari to my stables prior to my 35th....a series 1 Testarossa or a Boxer.

My 40th Bday is only 2 1/2 yrs away so I'm thinking of buying a car to note my passage into deep adulthood :) I'm sure Michael will agree that I am Very mature LOL
Maybe an MB300SL roadster, a pontoon Testarossa reproduction, Aston Martin Vantage, 550M

Something a little more mature than my current stable of "Italian Sex Machines" as my friend calls them :) Not that I'll be selling any of the ISMs

I got obesessed with the 308 watching reruns of Magnum, p.i. It's still my favorite Ferrari. I'm gonna have to sell it before I go to college probably, but hopefully someday I'll be able to buy another one. I really love the 308.

Good to see so many people had the same dream.

12yrs old saw 308 in R&T in 1978. Goal have one by 35 (I didnt finish Cardiology training till age 32). Age 34 bought 328GTB and even after 1.5 yrs I still cant believe it! I switched from 308 to 328 as it still was just as beautiful and a little newer. I bought it 200 miles from home and they were going to transport it for free- NO WAY-
I had to take it with me. 5 miles down the road it started to rain and I didnt care a bit. The car hasnt given me one ounce of trouble.

By the way I've noticed some 328 roof spoilers have a crinkle texture and some smooth. My 88's is smooth. When did they change or was this just a random variation?

Congrats,

Got my first Ferrari ('74 Dino 246 GTS) as an early Father's Day present just last month - 43 years old. Wish I could have afforded this back when I first saw it in '74.

This car, along with a Merak and a Lotus were in the '74 edition of either R&T ot Popular Mechanics, and I fell in love with it as a 17 year old. I have wanted one ever since, and God (and my wife) were good to me this year.

Caribe,

Search e-bay with the e-mail notify option and I'll bet you can find that issue for your own. I've bought several issues of R&T with the 328 road tests for my files. The sad part is that I threw them away years ago and now I'm buying them again. The last one only cost $4.50 on E-Bay....

I told my wife that my Testarossa was my mid-life crisis gift to myself, but the truth is that it has been a lifelong dream. In fact, I still remember the first issue of Road & Track back in the early 80's that depicted the car, and even some of the comments from the author. Gosh!, I wish I still had that issue. Oh well, I got the car and that's what matters.

Mitchel, Right now my car is in Atlanta at FOA. Among other things, I am having the interior restored. I'll let you know when it will be done and maybe you could drive yours over to their new place when I go to pick it up. I would like to see your car.

Hey Doc Cosgrove!! yes, my car is Nero Metallico over tan too! That is so cool! I wonder how many nero QVS there are? I will be calling FNA this week to try and find out how many were made originally. I wanted to tell you about something funny about my first 48 hours with the 308. I had the car inspected by Sport Auto in Connecticut. They gave it a very clean bill of health. I drove it home 1000 miles to Atlanta. I got caught in a torrential rainstorm 2 miles from my house and it started running roughly and missing. I could not believe it. Just turned out to be a bad spark plug extender.

Hey Heath, I live in Cumming, so we are not too far from each other! I'm having some guys up to my house Sunday early afternoon to have a Ferrari session. There will be food and drinks and stuff. I'd love to have you over! I will email you privately.

I already feel like I know you all, thank you for making me feel at home. FORZA!!

By the way, your car looks exactly like mine. Even the Euro spoiler. Same year, color, city, everything. I wonder how often that happens?
Mine is actually metallic black. Is yours the same?

Mitchel,
I was like you always wanting a Ferrari. 1981 I saw my first. It was a yellow 77 308 GTB. I knew right then I would have one. I spent the next 14 years in school dreaming about it. My goal was to have it before I turned 30. I finally got mine 4 months before my 30th. An 84 like yours #50045. Now you can't even imagine how excited I was because I was serious for 16 years about getting this thing. I mean really serious. The other 8 cyl models came and went and I was sticking to my guns for the 308. I couldn't just be a Ferrari, it had to be a 308 Ferrari. I always figured it would come from Atlanta ( I live in Birmingham ) and I always pictured myself in my new 308 during that 150 mile drive home for the first time. Well, my dream did come true. I found the car in Atlanta just like I thought I would, drove it home just like I pictured I would all excited and everything. It was a Fri. and all I could think about was what a great weekend I had coming. I am not kidding, I SWEAR this is true: exactly one quarter mile from my house on the way home that very first day the water pump blew out...
I had finally fulfilled a chilhood dream and all I could do the moment I got it home was stand there wondering what the hell all that smoke stuff was blowing out of the back of it.
Welcome to Ferrari ownership!

I never really remember seeing a 308 quattro in black. It looks really good, and it's more stealthy than the red. The interior looks so nice against it. Sweet car.
