The Skyline is supposed to be the highlight car for F & F II, I saw the car at SEMA last year and it was a blue one. |

Arlie, sort of think the Japanese cars (at least those in attendance at the event I dropped in on) are different from the "fads" that you referenced in that there is a functional (re: performance) advantage to their modifications that reaches well beyond mere aesthetics. Specifically, in a lot of ways these are the GTO's, Cudas, Chevelles and Camaros (GN's and 5.0's?) of today - although some can actually go around a corner. Domestic manufacturers, while lagging a bit, will likely launch competitors in this category (Focus RS?) out of necessity.

Jeffrey, while it won the overall, I think the only event the Dodge (only non-Japanese car entered aside from Lotus 7 replica, btw) took outright was the road course - and by a fair margin due, in part, to the fact that the owner/driver had been on a track once or twice in the past. Although the Dodge placed near the top in pretty much any contest that involved numbers (MPG/MSRP aside), it got worked in the odd subjective category or two such as the "granny" contest or some crazy ergonomic-related reference. Anyway, some cool cars and friendly folks - was a pretty fun day. FWIW. A 360 won last year's event. |

My point is this: the current craze of people pouring thousands of dollars into hi-po Japanese cars is reminiscent of past automotive nonsense. Customized vans filled with shag carpeted interiors back in the 70s; gaudy chrome plated show cars with pearlescent paint jobs in the 60s; polyester disco suits; they're all just passing fads that sap the pocketbooks of people jumping on the bandwagon. The customized vans are now rust in the salvage yard; the show cars were stripped of their usable parts years ago after the chrome started rusting and pitting; polyster disco suits are hanging on the rack at the thrift store or used as grease rags. The hi-po Japanese car fad won't last as long as the oil in my old 1972 Chevelle. And I didn't even mention the entire insane LOW RIDER cult. Anyone for bouncing air struts in your Ferrari? |

Arlie: Although it's clear what you stance on japanese engines/cars may be, both latent and outward, there are very few engines, that for the same cost, can handle an equivelent amount of abuse, without blowing. My 'hon-duh' motor has 88k miles on it, many many track miles, and all it's ever needed: oil changes, air filter, plugs, and a new clutch and flyhweel. And, of course a 1980 Ferrari engine will cost more v. a 1980 toyota motor; how many toyotas were made in 1980 v. # of Ferrari's, I don't see the point your trying to make. |

Funny, Vipers take a thrashing all day long around here...... I think the last comparison I read (forgot which magazine) they brought two worked Vipers, one caught on fire and the other broke a belt. Or something like that.... Ernesto |

Tenney, You forgot to mention that a Viper won the event in nearly every catagory except cost and MPG. Funny that those were measured in looking for the "Ultimate Street Car" |

Attended an "Ultimate Street Car" magazine shootout a couple of days ago with a friend who participated with his car (a Dodge). There were a fair number of Japanese cars (Supra, Skyline, WRX, etc ..) built to some crazy levels of performance competing in 110 degree heat. They were all treated to epic thrashings and held up admirably. Pretty impressive overall, I think. |

Japanese engines have nothing to envy....until it comes time to resell one. Let's see, which is worth more...1980 Ferrari engine, 1980 Corvette engine, or 1980 Toyota engine? |

I have been driving my 800+hp Supra for years now with no problems... Let's see 800+rwhp Ferrari with A/C, Radio, etc etc running daily. Trust me, Japenese engines have NOTHING to envy. Ernesto |

I guess the new movie will be using more Corvettes and Ferraris because those Japanese cars simply couldn't last long enough to make the sequel. When those guys drive their Japanese cars FAST, they become FURIOUS when the engines fly apart after only a few months. |

Wasn't crazy about the movie. No plot, no women, cars that barely move, and the acting sucks. Give me Ronin 2 any day. |

I had a guy call me from L.A. who is building an F50 replica for that movie. He was buying emblems for the car. Looks as though another Camaro/Firebird/Corvette will be sacrificed. No big loss there really. |

I'd like to see some more crotch rockets and stunts. What's the point in having a masterpiece of a car without driving it? When they showed the orange Supra everybody in the theater just about creamed their pants, but it didn't do as much as I thought it would. I wanted to see it fly, drift through a corner at 150, etc. What were they afraid the spoiler would fall off? Rumor has it that the next big car in the film will be an NSX and that some C5 Corvettes will be there. |

Na William, easy for you to do though. Just head out of the Key and you are right there. I believe it is between 20th and 10th, the nicer part of Calle Ocho. At least that is where I would film it.

Ok, the f & f part 1 was propably rubbish, but I loved the cars (even if they were a bit Rice). Some action parts were quit well made. I will definately buy the sequel DVD (when it comes) just for the sake of the cars. Dont care about the actors etc. Yes, yes - I know... the Fast & Furious is the same class as "driven"... |

Today and tomorrow the sequel to The Fast & Furious will be shot here in Miami on SW 8th Street. So here is positive confirmation that there will be another one of those crazy movies in the cineplexes soon. start screwing those spoilers on your Ferraris! |
