Hey all, my 84 308 QV #51665 was originally sold by Shelton Sportscars. I called Shelton Ferrari on Friday and they were less than helpful when I asked about my car. They wanted me off the phone rather quickly, I was miffed. Does anyone know who or what I need to do to fill in the gaps of my history? Would Shelton still have any records on my car? Should I call FoSan Fransico? Ideas?

Does the rule of odd number last digits apply in this instance (for road cars)? The old rule was odd for road cars (XXXX1), even for race cars(XXXX2). But that gets thrown out the window because all Dino cars are even numbered (mine: 10576, April 1975). I know with the introduction of the 308 GTB, even though using a modified GT4 chassis and the engine, went back to odd numbers. But along the way, other models were introduced and I assume that they just picked up odd numbers in between 308 production. Is this true?

Hey Peter, mine is ...54477. The Ferrari club website just says that these last digits determine where they were in the production order, but what exactly does it mean? There couldn't have been like 700 cars inbetween our two cars....?

Hey Peter, My 85 308GTSqv is a November 84 baby too. I think I'm gonna go to the dealer and get all the info on it like you guys are talking about. It'll be cool just to know.

According to FNA information as well as their website, all 3 are corporately owned stores. Not that I believe eveything they say, but this is the company line.

Ben,

Both Ferrari of Beverly Hills and Ferrari of Orange County are a joint partnership between Piero Ferrari and a Belgian gentleman. The stores are run by Piero's son-in-law Giacomo Mattioli. Ferrari Spa or Ferrari North America do not own any part of these stores.

Ferrari of San Francisco, however, is still owned by FNA.

Ferrari of Orange County is also a corporate "Ferrari Spa" owned store.

Some other dealers will NOT let you have copies of the invoices for work preformed but they will give you the basic "for that VIN....this is what we did on xx/xx/xx date / xx,xxx miles", via phone, you'd better have paper and pen handy.

I actually visited Ferrari of San Francisco. I also asked very nicely to see any records they had for my car. I also had in hand a photocopy of my registration. I took my edited carfax with. The F/SF folks even had a little fun watching me connect some of the dots for the car's history.

As I understand it there are only 2 Dealerships actually owned by Ferrari N/A (Spa?), the other is Beverly Hills Ferrari. I beleve these and FNA/Ferrari Spa are the only ones that have connectivity to this data. I'm not sure authorized dealers have access (don't know why not!)

The authorized dealers can/may supply a copy of recalls performed and Coupon "A" service as well as general maintenance completed there. Try to get a photocopy on all the records.

Someday..(hopefully)... all of he Ferrari Dealers will merge the data and have a database common to all.

What do you think about Lawrences' list down there? Did you get all that from your dealer? I would love to know all that.

I went through the dealer who originally sold the car. They had copies of all the paper work from the factory.

Lawrence, is this something that any authorized Ferrari dealer can give me, or do I have to go directly to FNA for it? This sounds like exactly what I am looking for.

Peter-how did you go about getting your info?

Bit like pinning down Enzo Ferrari's birth date !
I did manage to determine the build date on my '85 GTSQV. The car was tested/preped & ready to ship on November 28, 1984. When it actually popped out the factory door is harder to establish. Often the build date and shipping dates were mixed up on the paperwork or one or other was not recorded. From my investigations even my "mass produced" QV took 5 months from initial chassis construction to finished car stage. They were test driven for a day or so and then brought back to the factory for final tuning/prep work. How long it hung around the factory before shipping is hard to determine. My VIN No.for comparison is ZFFRA13D000053867. The previous/first owner of my QV took delivery or the car on Feb. 15 1985 .

Ask to see the "Ferrari N.A. Inc. Vehicle Master Inquiry. I Went to visit F-of -San Francisco. The simple report will show:

-- Interior
-- Carpets
- Original Dealer
- Chassis Number
- Assemble Number (Engine/Trans Sub-Frame)
- Invoice Number
- Invoice Date
- Engine S/N
- Engine Type
- Trans S/N
- Trans Type
- Original Certificate
- Key Ignition Number
- Key Door Number
- Demo Date
- Mileage Demo
- Model Year
- Factory Dates
-- Production (production complete, B-Day)
-- Shipping (From Factory to FNA)
- USA
-- Wholesale (Dealer to FNA)
-- Delivery (to Original Dealer)

I'm not sure but this may be the birth certificate you are looking for.

I betcha FNA would be able to tell us this info. My car's born on date is May 84 # 51665. I'd like to know how to get in touch with Ferrari North America, then I would have them run my VIN and see what comes up. Hey Tom, do you have a VW too? I have a 95 VW GTI VR6 as my daily car. It is a wonderful car and perfect garagemate to the 308!

You know what I think would be interesting? I have always wondered about this, Is there some way to find out the exact date of completion of our cars on the assembly line? For example, mine is Jan 84 #50045. What day in Jan? Anybody have any ideas how I could find out?
