Thanks guys for all the advice. I think im going
to look for a 75 - 79 308gtb/s. I like the looks of the gtb better the body lines flow. But to take the top is cool too. So gtb or gts. Also
could anyone tell me if the steering wheel can
be tilted down to a vertical angle or close like
in a race or sports car?

thanks again Mojo

I look at them as the 308 being the last of the old school cars and the 328 being the first of the new school ones. Sounds odd but if you work on them enough you'll see what I'm saying. The 308s are like the refinement of every Ferrari from 1947 up to 1985, the 328s are the beginning of the computerized revolution there. I personally like the 308 because it is much more simple, the most advanced part of it is on the later models, the digiplex which is like the most simple computer system and only does one thing essentially. The 328 starts to get into the computer wiring harnesses and plugs. So I see the 328 as a bit of a better car everyday if you just want to keep it stock and if you get a good one and take care of it. BUT if you want to work on it a lot or modify it than the 308 is better. I personally like the looks of the 308 more, but that's just opinion. The 328 has a much better fuse box. The 308s should theoretically work as well, but it never seems to (bullet fuses vs. 328 has the newer slide in fuses). Every once in awhile, in particular when doing something on a 328 I think about if I want to spend the time to swap my 308s to a 328s, maybe someday... That's the only part of the 328 I would like the 308 to have.
So, even though they look alike and run almost identical chassis, suspension, wheels, etc. the peripherals are very different. See which one you like more, either way you wont be disappointed, they're both sweet cars. Just my $.02

Joseph,
I'd advise you that the differences in these cars are MANY. If you are detail oriented, look long and hard my friend, you'll find many differences between the 308 and 328; most are actually cosmetic. There are though, differences mechanically as well. I'd like to invite you to visit Memphis, TN and attent one of our small get togethers. There you'll be able to see the cars you speak of parked side by side. We have a huge pool of knowledge here about them also. You'd be able to see at least 2 328's one late model and one early model. You'd be able to see a 1984 US 308 QV parked next to my 1985 Euro QV. This may be well worth your time. Feel free to give me a call, I'd be glad to show you around. Would anyone esle like to invite Joseph to attend a local meeting? Best of luck, Joseph.
Jeff

Steering wheels are manually adjustable, just have to get out a wrench to adjust(308's and 328's). Dave328 is pretty much "spot on" about the 308 versus 328. I prefer the look of the 308 series, but it is getting damn hard to find nice ones out there. I found a nice 328 much more easily...

Joseph, the position of the steering wheel in the 308QV is moderately adjustable. There are a pair of long bolts just under the dash that will allow you to change the tilt and position of the wheel.

Dave I have a question. The 308 I looked at did
NOT have a tilt wheel and it looked like a truck
the angle was 30 degrees:-( not a good feel.
My suburban tilts all the way vertical. Much better. How about the 328?

Thanks Mojo

Joseph,
I have had an 84 GTS, a 85 GTB, an 87 GTS and currently an 89 GTB. Here are some thoughts from pesonal experience.
Powerwise, 328's have a little more, most noticeable at lower RPMs. Different people prefer the looks of either but it's like picking fine wines that way. The main thing I have found is that 328's are much more reliable and it is much easier to find a nice, well sorted 328 than a QV. Mechanics tell me 328's are easier to work on as well reducing labor costs for some of the similar jobs and maintenance. 328's also seem to tolerate little or no use without requiring a lot of work to put back into regular use. Beginnning with 88.5 models, 328's have suspension improvements that make the car drive and handle better. But these models cost more.
For first time buyers especially, I always recommend 328's because of availability of good cars and I don't know anyone who ever had a bad experience with one. I do think 308's are great cars, but they are needy and now that they are all at least 17 years old, finding a good one is no easy task.
Can't tell you much about the 84 you mention. If service is up to date and the the car runs right, then 35K would be an excellent price. I would strongly recommend a pre purchase inspection however. A car needing a big service and other items can quickly swallow 10K or more.

You May want to consider your size. I am 6'1 200lb. and feel a little more room in the 328 vs. 308 model. If you are going to spend a lot of time in the car (weekend trips etc.) this may help you decide between the two.

If the freakin stock market would help at all my 328 would have been in the garage 4 months ago &*@#it.

Love my 84 QV... had the choice of that or a 328, wanted the black insets in the hood and fenders, looks good with the black bumpers. And it is instantly recognizable as Magnum P.I. style!

True, one can find a 328 for close to what a nice QV goes for. However, for cars in similar great condition, the price differential is around $10-12K.
Greg is correct, no right or wrong choice here....

Buy the one that lights up your pop bumpers the most. They are quite similar and both are durable. The performance difference is slight.

Joseph, this has been one of more debated topics on this site. If you do some searches, you find this same question asked over and over and over again. This is no right or wrong choice.

Im thinking of buying an 84 or 85 308qv but
as I look around I see that 328's are only a
little bit more. Any advice?
