one small tip - for those of you who do put your car(s) in the shop. keep a small sticky pad with you. write down the ODO milage on two stickies: place one in your wallet, place one on the dash. |

Ken - I was the one that posted about the S2000 being driven with the voice recorder on. I've heard the tape, and a copy has been made and locked up. Dealership still hasn't budged. However, this always brings up something I've always wanted to do - they have a contract that says they will do such and such service on your car and they are not liable for X,Y and Z. Now.. what are they liable for? What if I bring my own contract in for them to sign away? Regarding stolen goods - one other individual is still in court battles over a florida shop that did some warranty work on the car, left it out overnight and the next morning the wheels were stolen - and the guy's insurance had to take care of it after he paid the deductable. Its rather strange though - that was a complex issue because the security signs out front were... falsified - the security company didn't have a contract with the place. Ahhh anyways! /rant. Sometimes, tipping and getting to know your service techs is very helpful. I know mine - VERY well. He knows me by name even if I'm in to pick up some oil filters or Honda MTF, and tech's my car for track events too. |

Back in 1978 I bought a new 911 Turbo from Vasek Polak Porsche on a Friday and came to get it on the following Monday. It had almost 300 new miles on it. I asked and was "assured" that Mr. Polak himself had driven it to his weekend home in Palm Springs and that "there was nothing to worry about" (also implying it was an honor to have the car broken in by the MAN himself). Being young and impatient (turbo's were very rare in those days) I chose to forget about it. Twenty years later the MAN killed himself driving a 996TT on the autobahn (glad it wasnt in my car). |

Don't think it doesn't happen at Ferrari dealers - it does. I've personally seen cars being thrashed by people who ought to know better. |

Holy moly, that stupid technician just posted his job away. I can only imagine what is going to happen to that fool. The owners of the car have every right to go after the tech and the dealership. If someone drove my Ferrari with out my persmission!? My GOD I would not be so cool. Someone would lose their job and get their teeth knocked out with a quickness.

There was a post on here a few weeks ago about a F-Chat user whose friend took in a Honda S2000 to the shop and accidentally left his voice recorder in the passenger seat. When the tech took the car out for an unauthorized drive, the recorded got bumped and turned on and the owner got to hear a recording of the tech redlining the car very hard. I always check the in-and-out mileage when my car goes to the shop. I dont trust anybody. If I ever found more than a few miles on the car, I would get F*****G pissed. My girlfriend took her car into the shop (a Saturn no less) and it came back with 50 miles added to the clock - still trying to figure out where they took it. |

There was a great story here in the UK about a guy who found his Ferrari had mysteriously gained 350 extra miles after it had been in for service. Moral: Make the garage note the mileage in writing when you book it in! |

A local NSX owner had a similar issue with his car when he took it in for some radio/CD glitch and when he got it back had 35 miles added to the clock...just FYI -Ben |

http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=19809&perpage=25&pagenumber=1 Apparently, a Ford SVT tech bragged about his joyride in a 03 SVT Cobra on the net and also wrote some offensive things about the owner being a woman. This thread has spread beyond the Mustang community and non car forums. It got so widespread, that the husband and wife that owned the car eventually found out about it. Probably not as prevalent in the Ferrari community but an interesting read as a cautionary tale. |
