Bill, if the the Sultan can be considered ultra-rich, then his subjects can be considered as 'merely' rich. I know this for a fact, because my country shares the same borders with them. The country has practically no poor people. I have read and heard stories of how Bruneians come to KL (Malaysia's capital) and shop like crazy at the shopping district there. These guys would buy the whole merchandise from a store and come back the next day and buy some more. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about the Brunei people. |

although there is a great amount to be said for the sultan and his wealth, he has fallen on harder times than most realize. mike sheehan has contracted to purchase a large lot of custom and one-off cars the sultan had constructed. many of these cars are the ones that were claimed to never had existed. sheehan also is purchasing "regular" cars form the receivers that seized the sultans property. many of these cars are trickiling onto the market but won't find themselves in the us due to the fact that all are rhd. there was a small article in the most recent issue of prancing horse. |

further you have to give this guy a lot of credit for realizing that his wealth is limited to one commodity and he is making the right step towards improvement and getting away from that one commodity to ensure the people will continue to have benefits we can only dream of. Free healthcare no taxes free schools (and those are better than in the US I may add) very very low unemployment rate free housing for less fortunate.

Isn't that the way the rich corporate world always works? When times are good, the profits go into the rich guy's bank account. When times are bad, the losses come from the little guys pocket; either by cutting his wage or cutting his job completely. All in the interest of making sure that the rich guys keep their new cars, yachts, vacation condos, etc. |

He has different priorities. His goals should be focused on improving life in his country and creating enduring peace and prosperity for his people. I agree with you, though. People of privilege are rarely able to motivate themselves to take the difficult road. Those who do can do great things. |

You know when you have as much money as the sultan does, I bet life gets a little boring sometimes. Think about it, you have nothing to strive for, no goals, you can have anything in the world. Sure it would be nice to have a lot of money, but that is a bit extreme. I would not want to be THAT wealthy. |
