I love Ferraris but I'm not so keen on red as a colour for a car. That's only my humble and not all that strongly held opinion, but there it is. I have an 'Argento' (silver not titanium) 355 GTS and a 'Nero' (black) 456, both with black interior. I would say that the V12s look good in the darker or non-metallic colours because they're larger, and the V8s look great in the bright colours. ANY Ferrari looks FANTASTIC when it's clean and polished regardless of colour.
The only sin is to not drive and enjoy (and allow and encourage others less fortunate to enjoy) your car if you're lucky enough to have a Cavallino Rampante on the front. You choose....

My first and current Ferrari is Rosso Rubino, and I love the color. I wanted Black/Tan, but when my wife and I saw the Rubino one in person, we decided to go with it. Have no regrets, and it looks great in the sun.

A red Ferrari looks great until you park at a club event and then your exotic looks like everybody else's car.

I used to think so. The F355 changed my mind! Ferrari continues to amaze and move me.

Best!

I think this is considered a venial sin. It is a mortal sin if you buy a ferrari of any color and tell someone that you don't like it. For a mortal sin you can rot in hell for eternity. A venial sin is a slap on the wrist, so go for it.

Phil & Robert, even though my current F-car is red/tan, my next (looking for a 355 GTS) will be titanium / tan. LOVE that combination!

My 308 is white, and I love it. To me, different colors highlight different aspects of the design.

Martin, it was not difficult. It is not her everyday car, obviously) Last Christmas we were visiting her family in Calif. when we happened to go visit F. of Los Gatos. They had a LOT of used cars (times are tough in Silicon Valley...), and this one was kind of hidden in a sea of 355's & 360's. I knew from their web site that they had had it for a while. My wife saw it buried, and was drawn to it like a bee to a flower (which is VERRRRY unusual for her). Long story short, it had all the records from new ('86 model, 56,xxx miles), had all maint's done, had original & spotless paint , leather, & rubber, etc. She drove it, and loved it, as it is a lot less intimidating than the 550. So, over the intervening weeks, I haggled with the dealer, and finally struck an agreement, and they shipped it to us here. Now realize, she does not drive the car with the gusto I do, nor does she have any performance-driving training....so she really under-drives the car. But that's OK, as she really loves its compact size, lowness, directness, and all the wonderful sounds it makes!!

Maranelloman,
how did you get your wife to drive a Ferrari as well. I am working on mine and she won't budge. I told her to get a 360F1 so she can drive better here in traffic, but nothing. She might end up buying another one of these damn Benz.

Tom,

Strange, I had exactly the same thoughts when buying my first Ferrari. I also think that the very first Ferrari you own should be in rosso corsa and so I bought one in red with tan leather (Which is rather uncommon because most red Fcars here in Germany have black interior).
Its all a matter of taste of course and I think that it depends on what type of Ferrari you buy(Would never buy a 550,456 or vintage Ferrari in red!).
On the other hand you could get your second Ferrari in another colour to have a choice which fits perfectly to the clothes of your girlfriend :-)

Con saluti cordialissimi,
Jens Haller

P.S. Bye the way: Red is the national colour for all italian race teams and cars as racing green for Britain, white or silver for Germany, blue for France and so on...

Well since she's already a redhead, does re exterior need to... well.... say that so bluntly?
Grigio over Grigio for me (and she's my first). All the odd colors catch my eye, I'm not one who likes Rosso Corsa for my own cars, but the other reds I think I am starting to really like (Rosso Barchetta, Rossa Rubino, etc.)....heck what am I talking about I'm waiting on one of those Grigio F-50s to get on the market...matching Grey mid engined 12's LOOK OUT!

anyone have the link to that post handy (to the concours that had one of those grey f50s present with pics...)??

Buy whatever color turns your head. Like ACW did, if you don't like it, you can always find a way to trade to another.

Robert Ginsberg, that is what my wife has! Except hers has a black interior! Silver is very suave on Ferraris, IMO.

that is get another color.

I have a red TR, love it, but I have also come to love the darker colors. After hanging around a lot of them, I now really like the blue ones and black ones, especialy in the TR series. I like the more stealthy look. Like a girl who can be real sexy without taking the clothes off look.

Anyone see this one. i saw it in the dupont registry online.. color looks gorgeous. so its that or red I think. I did see a titanium one in east hampton over the summmer that looks good as well. Hey choice is good right.

Keep in mind a red ferrari is very visible. I did end up switching from red to titanium because the visibility was annoying.

Just read in Autoweek that about 5% of the Enzo production will be painted black. Montezemolo said the car has a stealth fighter look. I agree. A picture of the black car appeared in WWW.barchetta.cc

On another note. The Enzo production has been bumped up to 399 cars instead of "just" 349.

My first and current Ferrari is black (Nero). I skipped over red and yellow. I didn't want the same color choices made by just about everyone else. Silver or titanium were my back up choices until I found out there's a bunch of them in the area already.

I went for yellow in my first Ferrari... I just didn't want to be like 90% of the Ferraris I see on the road. But, like Jim said, buy whatever YOU like...

Get whatever color you like. If Ferrari wanted them all to be red they would be. Red is always a nice color and stirs the emotions, but it is nice to see some variations also.

Not to sound stupid but as i think about getting my first ferrari I thought it should be Red. That a ferrari in red is the right color. I thought if its my first ferrari it should be red. But does it have to be? I have seen some other really nice colors and think it looks great as well besides red. Is it a sin not to get your first ferrari in red? ha.. thanks for your thoughts

Tom
